This is my first question to all you great moms. My husband and I are desperately trying to get pregnant with our 2nd child since 6 months and since then my periods got irregular. Last month we used the ovulation predictor kit and still on the 5th I got my periods. This was 5days earlier than my expected date and since my periods got irregular, they are always delayed by atleast 10 days. This time the bleeding lasted only for 2 days. Today, I have no bleeding at all which is strange as I bleed atleast for 3 days generally. Could I be pregnant with some kind of implantation bleeding ot could it be a normal period once again? Not gettin a Dr. app before Jan 25 so I thought of taking suggestions from you all. Any suggstion or advice would be highly appreciated.

So What Happened?

Ladies

I am so thankful to you all who devoted time to read and respond me with luck and blessings. Well, to let you all know.......I am not pregnant yet but during all investigations my Dr came to know that I have kidney stone and may be something else for which I had to go for a catscan yst. Now I feel stupid for delaying to think of a second baby as I wanted to be very FIT first with lots of exercise and good diet and positive thinking but when I have schieved all these things may be I am not FIT at all to think about it. I feel sad but trying to take it positively that its good I did not concieve already when I was unaware of whats going on in my body.

I always found that I would get pregnant whenever we were not actually "trying". With my first, we were so frustrated, we took some "time off" from the trying, and BAM! So put the fertility /ovulation thingy away (I had one too) and just have fun. It will happen. Good Luck!

We are also trying to get pregnant and since I went off birth control my periods have been weird as well. I used to be regular at the end of the month but we started trying and I've been getting later and later. We were excited the first time this happened because I was about a week late, I am now up to being about 2 weeks late every month. I guess that this means that I have a new cycle now. I guess it could be the stress of wanting another one but I guess time will tell.

Well the first thing you should do is invest in a pregnancy test. Most will detect if you are pregnant the first day of a missed period....technically that time has passed so if you are pregnant it would show it. Walmart has some for about $3 and they work fine. I've used them the last three times I was pregnant and all detected the pregnancy the first week I missed my period.

And not to get your hopes up, but with my first child I had a very short period of about two days and it was very light. I typically have a heavy period for the first day or two and then the next three are light. At any rate, I believe I was already pregnant. My doctor never would take that date, but my daughter was 8 lbs 14 oz when she was born. My next daughter was only 7 lbs 3 oz. And my son was 8 lb 15oz. So I may have been or may not. Honestly though I was weirding out my husband at that point with my hysterical outbursts.....so I really think I was already pregnant.

Good luck and God Bless!!

PS Don't pay any attention to the poster that said you gave too much information about your flow....When discussing whether your pregnant or not it's normal to talk about your periods. And I don't know a single woman that can't talk comfortably about their period...I mean it's natural and I've personally been having them for over 25 years...I think I can talk about it. Now do I want to hear about bowel habits because you go everyday??? Not really. Then again, if you think you might have colon cancer it would be relevant. Just thought I would add my two cents to that comment.

My cycle has been strange since having my daughter and a few miscarriages. All those hormones seems to be thrown off or something. Anyway, I can bleed for two days, stop for a couple of days and then start up again. Sometimes it's just a heavy day or two, a little spotting, and it's done. Then, there's the one where it's light the whole time, about 5 days.

Don't rely too heavily on the ovulation predictor kits either. I suggest charting your cycle, there's a lot of great info in the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" and you can chart online at fertilityfriend.com It's a good way of getting to know your body and understanding how it all works.

You may consider asking your doctor to check your progesterone levels when you have your appointment. Best wishes!

When I told my doctor about my periods being similar like yours, he says sometimes women have period around the 27 day mark and some around the 35 day mark. I am 34 with 4 kids. He said it is sometimes the way the body changes as we get older and other factors. I heard a tip many years ago, if you are trying to get pregnant is have sex about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks after the start of your period (not the end) and do so for about a week (just to make sure you made the window of opportunity). That's because that is about when you start to ovulate.

I had a light implantation "period" about 10 days after conception with my son. It lasted 3 days I believe. I was also very irregular at the time. I hope it is the same for you!

Hi M.,

I am in the same situation as you. I experienced the same thing with my last cycle, and I got my cycle about or a little more than five days earlier.I was told by my doctor not to stress out and give it time to conceive. My child as well feels lonley without a sibling, and thats the main reason I was hoping to get pregnant right away but its been about 6 moths too. As much as I would love to find out if I am pregnant with the irregular cycle I just had, but I am just going to wait for this cycle to see if it happens or not. Trying for a while to, and then getting my period I would get upset a bit and now I am trying to avoid thinking bout pregnancy and my period counting days upto my cycle to see if it comes or not. I do calculate my ovulation, the best I can with now irregular days in between, and just waiting to see when it happens. Couldn't offer much advice, but some support that your not alone. It happens to everyone and just take it one day at a time.
Hope this helps.

You could be, I had implantation bleeding last time I got pregnant, thought it was a period until I got morning sickness 2 weeks later. Take a pregnancy test, they're very accurate.

All this sounds very familiar - after trying for four months - of irreguar periods - (always before being extremlly regular) my Dr. said - lower your stress level and quit the caffiene. Keep a journal and be patient (hard to do when you want to be pregnant) Implantation bleeding usually occurs a few days after getting pregnant and it will be really bright red - even pink color for a day very light. Hope it helps..

Many women are not regular and this does make it difficult to try to get pregnant. But being regular is normal and that is what you have to get back to being. Something is not balanced in your system and you should get it checked out to rule out some possibilities. But, there is MUCH success in natural hormone balancing and pregnancy. I have a lot of information and testimonials on it for you.

Dr. John Lee was a pioneer in this field and you can go to his website at http://www.johnleemd.com and see what natural progesterone cream can do. Again, I'd be happy to share with you what I have and then you can make an educated decision in your health. Here's to you!

Make an appointment with Dr. Mary Wood-Molo ###-###-####). She's a reproductive endocrinologist and a genius, MUCH better than a fertility doctor. Your insurance will probably cover her because most cover diagnostics, even if they don't cover treatment. Thanks to her, I have a gorgeous 18 month old daughter without the use of insemination or invitro or anything. She balanced my hormones without injections and removed a polyp in my uterus and voila! Pregnancy acheived in one month after 10 years of fruitless trying (well, testing began in October, polyp removed in December, pregnancy in late January). Good luck to you!

Hi M.,

I'm sorry you have to go through this. I had trouble conceiving with my 1st (over a year) but my 2nd and 3rd were about 2 seconds, and then with my last, it took about 18 months and 2 miscarriages before we were successful. I would HIGHLY recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Weschler. It is an awesome guide to understanding your body, cycles and the best time to get pregnant. It's a little work to chart your cycles, but it is SO WORTH IT!!! You know exactly what your body is doing and when the best time to try is and you'll know if you are pregnant without even taking a test (if you want to wait a week...we didn't :)!!!) I also found out with my second miscarriage that I had a hormone imbalance and wasn't producing enough progesterone. I read the book about it by Dr. John Lee and used USP NATURAL progesterone cream. I got pregnant on the second cycle and our little wonder baby is now 18 months old and happy and healthy! My heart goes out to you...I pray you are successful!!

I second the advice that says it may be implantation bleeding. With my son, I thought my period had come, but it was light and didn't last long. It turns out I was pregnant. I hope this is the case for you, as it is what you want. Good luck.

Another vote for www.fertilityfriend.com!

When you sign up, you will get 'daily lessons'. Read them, re-read them, and read them again! You will learn how to read your fertility signs and have a potentially better chance to predict your ovulation using factors such as cervical mucus consistency, basal body temperature, and others. You will get an easy to understand but totally in-depth and comprehensive explanation of your menstrual cycle. It will be very helpful to you in determining when to have intercourse and when you might ovulate.

I'll admit, it's a little overwhelming at first, but it has fantastic information. Best of luck to you!

Just wanted to second the note that you absolutely did NOT give too much information about your period. I had to re-read your post after seeing the "objection" to see if I'd missed something. Anyway, I had implantation bleeding too, so that could be it. Also could be that your hormones are starting to fluctuate and that's affecting your periods. Keep track of everything and take your notes in when you see your Dr. and s/he will know if you need further testing. Even if it is a hormone issue, it doesn't mean you can't get pregnant, it just might take a little more time. Best of luck to you!

HI M.,

I don't have a say really on whether or not you could be pregnant. I just know my period fluctuated quite a bit when I was trying to get pregnant. I think stress had a lot to do with that.

Anyway if it turns out you are not pregnant, I would highly suggest that you get blood work done to check your TSH level. If your doctor finds out that your thyroid is not regulated, he/she can prescribe synthroid or another med. to regulate your thyroid. I was told I have an underactive thyroid from my infertility doctor. I hoped that the medicine alone, would be my "cure all." But it wasn't, I had to go on to IVF... at least I got pregnant with the first try:)
I have heard of some ladies telling me that they did find out their thyroid was out of whack and soon after some of them got preg. just by regulating it with med.

Just a thought,

J.

Not sure what to tell you about the bleeding, but I can tell you that for insurance reasons you need to make sure your doctor doesn't record this as infertillity, because some insurance won't cover that. I believe irregular periods or bleeding is a medical issue (according to isurance). My friend had the same thing, told her dr she was trying to get pregnant and she had irregular periods and then she got a HUGE bill for infertillity when that wasn't REALLY the issue. I am not a big fan of her DR. but it is something to be aware of and check with insurance about before you go.

My sister had a similar problem. The Dr. put her on the BC pill for a couple of months to regulate her periods & as soon as she went off it she got pregnant. I don't know your age, but if you are 35 or older you should see an infertility specialist.

Hi M.-

I also struggled a bit getting pregnant with my second...currently 11.5 weeks now! I understand your frustration! I tried the ovulation predictors and according to those, I didn't ovulate! I went with checking my internal mucus...looking for signs of ovulation. It worked! I would think that there could be a possibilty you are pregnant and the bleeding is implantation. How many days has it been since you tried to conceive? You could wait a few more days and try a pregnancy test. Good luck to you and your family!

Hi M.-
I know it is a frustrating time for you. But I don't think you have anything to worry about. First of all it can take up to a year to get preggo. The fact that you are irregular may be stress related, or more, you never know. When I was trying to get pregnant for the 2nd time I was getting frustrated after 5 months or so and I was having cramping periods & late as well. I thought something was wrong with me. Saw the Dr. she told me to relax and come back after a whole year of trying. And it turned out that I was actually pregnant when I saw the Dr.! Go talk to your dr. Don't worry it will happen!! Good luck. Take a pregnancy test!
