Honest Opinion of a Baby Name
Leona: like or dislike and why?
I think it could be a pretty and unique name and really like it, but am having a hard time reading people's reactions. I don't want to saddle my daughter with an awful name. I thought this would be a good place to get some honest answers. Don't worry about hurting my feelings--just looking for some real feedback. Thanks!
So What Happened?™
We went with Leona and I like it even more now that she's born. Thanks so much for all the responses--they were helpful.

I like the name. It is an older name, like something from my great grandmothers generation. Her name was Maude and her daughter was Zeona. So, there are some awful names too! Just think about kids in her class being able to say it. Leona should not be hard to say and I think people will like it. More importantly, do you like it? Can you stand saying all day long? It is very pretty and while not common, it would not be misspelled or mispronounced, and she would not have to be Leona K in her class, like when I was growing up, we had 3 Davids

I like it. I think its great when parents use something different than whats on the top 10 names list every year. How boring to pick a name from the list!

I like it! I am probably partial as there is a history of Leon's and Lee's in my family (grandfather, my mom, my uncle, etc). My cousin's name is middle name is Leona and mine is Lee. My next (and last) kid's middle name will either be Lee or Leona. Essentially, there are no boys left to pass down the last name, so the girls get "Lee." Sounds a bit weird, but I'm still proud of it, lol!!

I don't care for it but it's your decision. Who cares what anyone else thinks. I didn't name my daughter until I saw her because I wanted to see what she looked like. I wanted the name to fit her. That worked for me because she does look like a Nicole.
Earlier today I ran into a girl named Echo. I have never heard of that before for a child. She said kids made fun of her all of the time. Now that she is an adult the name is okay. Her parents got it from a soap opera. I had a dog named Echo when I was young. I didn't tell her that though.
I would decide on if you think kids would make fun or not.

I don't particularly like it, but I can't think of any nicknames for Leona and I do like that part of it. You never know if you will be "saddling" your daughter with an awful name, she may love it. Everyone always told me V. was a beautiful name and I hated it. I wanted to be Kelly. Now that I'm older, I don't like the name Kelly and I like V.. Do what you want, it's your daughter, and if people don't like it, it is their problem not yours.

I think it's pretty. It is unique enough that there won't be a lot of other children named Leona, but not so unusual that people think that it is weird.

When I think of Leona, I think of Leona Helmsley so it wouldn't be one that I would pick. That being said. This is your baby and if you like the name and are convinced that you will continue to like calling your daughter that her whole life I would go with it. I still regret going with other peoples opinions and naming my last one Emmaley instead of Emerson like I wanted. Oh well, it's too late now. Go with what you like. Congrats!

I personally LOVE it! One person said that you wouldn't have a nickname (I am personally not a big fan of nicknames) but you could always use Lainy (or I guess you would spell something like Leiny). I think either is beautiful :)
Good Luck and CONGRATS!!!

I like it but in my opinion a baby name all depends on how it goes with the middle and last name and how easy it is too pronounce and as long as it is not too different, I like Leona, it is pretty and different yet simple and if it goes with the middle and last name I think it is a good name.
If you like it then name your child that if people don't like it oh well, I don't think it is so different that a negative opinion is based on this name being bad just their personal preference
