I am currently homeschooling my 6 year old (he's starting 1st grade this year). I was wondering if there are any other homeschooling families in the Philadelphia area (or surrounding suburbs) that knows of places that either offer homeschool groups or extracurricular activities. I need him to be around other children besides his brother. I've already called PAL and am waiting to hear back from them. I can be reached through this site or via email at ____@____.com. Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

I would say Open Connections is the best place in the area. It is newtown square. It offers events and support for parents.
I know it is a very good program.
Here is the web site.

Hope this helps

I have a good friend who homeschooled her 3 boys until this year - they are 12, 11 and 9. I know they went to a homeschool physical education class at PBU (Philadelphia Biblical University??)

If you search Yahoo groups for Jr. Explorers you'll find a homeschooling field trip group. Lots of fun exciting field trips in the local area. There's a trip to the Adventure Aquarium planned for September, etc. Also, Plymouth Community Center in Plymouth Meeting has a homeschooling PE class that's inexpensive and gets the kids moving. My son will be taking the class this fall...I think it's on Mondays. =) Also check out Yahoo for other homeschooling support groups in the area....Eastern Montgomery Homeschoolers, etc. Email me if I can help! =)

I home schooled my oldest son last year. I went threw the Agora Cyber Charter school. They have a bunch of other children involved around the PA area. And he even had field trips and some moms started monthly get togethers for each other. I highly recommend the school. I would have done it again this year but I doubt my teaching abilities. It was easy and fun for him. We both learned a lot!

Hi J.,

There is a place called MVP Sports & Fitness in Levittown that offers phys ed for homeschoolers. http://www.mvpsportstraining.com/

Here is a resource for homeschooling moms: http://www.thehomeschoolmom.com/states/pennsylvania.php

And if you are interested in getting out and meeting other moms and getting some exercise yourself you can bring your children to class with you at Baby Boot Camp. The kids can interact and play with other kids and you get a great workout and adult interaction. I would imagine that you don't get a whole lot of adult conversation being a Homeschool Mom. Check out www.babybootcamp.com for more info. There are indoor/outdoor classes but I think the classes at the indoor children's play areas would best fit what you need. The kids can play while you workout. I hope this helps.
