Homemade Shampoo
I am looking for a homemade shampoo recipe. With so many harmful chemicals in shampoo (even the expensive ones), I am interested in trying a more natural approach. The problem now is finding a good recipe? Any ideas? Thanks so much!!

Because I dont have time to make my own anything I buy all of my stuff. I do NOT buy anything that has chemicals or parabens etc. in them. I am extremely picky. I get all of my bath & body and house cleaning products from Neways International. I have found some other good products at Lush but you have to watch their ingredients because they do use parabens in some of their products. I am not home now to reference the book I am thinking of but I have one at home that is for essential oils and has recipes. I am out of state visiting family or I would have that info for you as well. If you visit www.purelybalanced.com and go to the links page there are sites there to help you with ingredients in products and the safety of products. The link for Neways is there as well if you want to check it out too. I use their shampoos and everything and since they are all unfragranced I add essential oils to make my own fragrance.

Hi C. - I applaud your efforts to get the right kind of products for your family! Have you tried the Arbonne Baby Wash as Shampoo? It is super gentle for all ages, and no harsh chemicals....... Let me know if you would like to sample. :-) Angie

A friend told me that she has used dishwashing liquid for years as her shampoo. I tried it and I see nothing wrong with it. I have used Ivory Liquid, Dawn and Joy thus far. If it cleans dishes why can't it clean your hair. I can tell no difference in using it instead of hair shampoo. Just thought you might like to try this.

No need to make your own. Whole Foods has several different brands of all natural shampoos and conditioners. Most of them aren't even more expensive than grocery store shampoos.

I don't have a recipe for homemade shampoo but this company Melaleuca has great products. Everything made is safe and good for you. They have cleaning supplies which on contain no chemicals only natural ingredients, so if a little one get into it all you need to do is give some water. I love their stuff and I know they have shampoos, make up, toothpaste, and anything else you need!

This might cause you to go "ewwww", but I know a few people who use vinegar as a rinse! There's a few "methods" to this one, apparently the secret is to find one that suits your hair type.
1) use a natural bar of soap or shampoo bar (http://usa.lush.com/cgi-bin/lushdb/index.html?lang=en_US&... - is one place I know that has it) & rinse with vinegar afterwards.
2) use only vinegar.
The people I know say that their hair is less frizzy, no fly-aways, and the smell vanishes once the hair is dry.
You could always look for some "melt & pour" start kits, this is for soap, but shampoo is just soap in liquid form with smelly stuff in it as well. (Hubby & I use shampoo bars and they work just as good as bottled shampoo.)
