Homemade Gift Ideas

I was wanting my kids (3.5 and 19 mos) to make a little mother's day gift for my mom and MIL, but I'm feeling sort of un-crafty today! I'd like it to be easy, since I'm behind and Mother's Day is this weekend already, and something that both kids can sort of do, I mean my son (the younger one) won't want to be involved too much, but it'd be nice if he could at least contribute for their sake! The only good idea I really had was to make some bookmarks decorated with pressed flowers or thumb prints or something and then get them a gift card to Barnes and Noble to go with it. Both moms like to read and I'd like to do the same thing for both of them, mostly because it's easier for me and b/c I sometimes feel my MIL can get a little competitive with my mom. We did flower pots last year and we recently did a big photo shoot with all the grandkids for my MIL b/c my SIL moved out of the country, so I wanted to stay away from those two ideas. Anyway, what do you all think of the bookmark idea or do you have another great idea to pass on, I'm open! Thanks and happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!

How about stepping stones. You can buy the kit at a crafts store. My brothers wife did one each year with her kids until thier feet were too big to fit and made a path of them with the feet getting bigger each step. So damn adorable.

One year we got a stepping stone kit and had the kids each make one for each of the grandma's. The kit was about $10 and it made 4 small stepping stones. We put the year and the child who made its name on it and they both loved them and still have them displayed in their front gardens. IT was very quick too. Once we decorated them they were set and ready the next day.

I think the book mark with the kids fingerprints is a great idea..!!! One year I took my boy's hand print for the inside of a card with the date next to it and for the front of the card I put his picture - it turned out really cute.

What about making some cool frames for the pictures. Hobby Lobby has a nice selection of plain wooden frames that kids could paint and some cool flowers and stickers the older child could decorate.

Hello, I'm sure you'll get all kinds of ideas. One is; purchase some nice printing paper (flowers, hearts, outside scenery, etc...) from Michae'ls or Hobby Lobby. Make a title up at the top; example "My Nana", My Grandma"
or something like that. Then, make up a list of questions, ask the kids and fill in "their" answers. You can purchase a nice frame and give it to them.
Questions can be: What is a Grandma? How much do you love your Grandma?, etc.... Sign their name at the bottom and do a finger print with a date and age. Or buy note pads and with ink make pictures using their fingers or hands. Like a worm, flower, or insect, etc...... Hope you find something and I wish I had my mom to do all those wonderful things for. Happy Mother's Day.
