I am only homeschooling a preK child right now, but the amazing thing about homeschooling is you can adapt to your childs need and be that 1on1 they need. My sister has 6 kids and 4 of them are school age and being homeschooled by her, with a toddler and a 4 yr old in the house as well. Her children are all doing well. Her 2nd oldest does not like to do school that much he would most likely be defined as "adhd" by todays standards but b/c she is able to give him that attention he is doing fine it might just be a little different approach. Don't let your son be labeled and thrown into some category, explain to your son that his school is his work, there may be some things he doesnt like to do but with homeschool you can always take lots of time to explore subjects that are his strength and build confidence maybe then the other subjects won't be such a downer for him. By the way it's very normal for 5 and 6 yr olds to be very distractable, with homeschooling you can condense school it will not be an 8 hour day of school work he will have more time to go play or do school trips with you things like that. hope this helps.

There is NOTHING like homeschool. This is my first year doing it, there are many that will put it down but they obviously don't know about it.
Anyway, my kids are in K-5, and grade 1 and we are about 2 never more than 3 hours a day. We are using BJUPress for our ciriculum. You will have days that your frustrated but that is normal you just have to remind yourself that you are doing it for them and not you! LOL
What area are you in, might be able to help find your homeschooling support group. There is ALWAYS tons to things to do so you never worry about them not getting enough interaction.
You can do this! Take it from me! I have 3 kids, do all the paper work for our construction business and do 2 MLM business'.

We were living in a bad school district and resarched homeschool. My son is in 2nd grade and we found a credited homeschool called k12. It is an internet based homeschool and it is great! You do not have to pay anything and everything you need is sent right to your doorstep. It is a virtual public school. You have a teacher that helps you through the process and they have field trips with other kids in their class! Look into it!

At that age it will probably take no more than an hour. My DS is 12 and we only take about 3 hours, less if he is really on the ball. Most areas have homeschool groups taht can give you information aboaut homeschooling in your area. They usually have some group classes, field trips, etc. that you can participate in. Homeschooling is great. My now 14 and 17 year olds have thanked me over and over again for doing it for them. There are state requirements but GA is actually easy. The choices of curriculum to meet your needs are tremendous and anything can be tailored to what you and your child need and what amount of time you can spend. One on one attention can be the difference between one hour and eight hours....

I don't think this is the best forum for home school questions. Homeschool.com has a great forum. There are also yahoo groups the are homeschoolers . I had a great time homeschooling my son, we' ve had to stop, but it is what you make it.

I agree with what everyone has said. When they are young, it is so easy. It does not take that long. Once they become independent and go do many things on their own, you can direct them from a far.

I have homeschooled for over 20 years and my kids are grown now.
I have several blogs to help with home schooling or you can contact me privately. There is a ton of help at HSLDA so go there and check on your law. I live in PA. They list each state's law and tons of help at www.hslda.org.

You love your child and want him to succeed more than any other person in the world. You can do it. It is not always easy, but so worth it!

Just make sure you have exhausted everything the state is required to give you. Talk to your son's school to get a direct line to the special needs coordinator. Maybe he's too smart for the class he's in or maybe he needs to learn some skills in order to stay focused. You may not have the skill set required to deal with whatever this is. So make sure you know what this is first.
