Home Printer/Fax/Copy/Scan

I'm looking for a multifunction printer that can print, copy, scan and Fax. My biggest complaint with the one I currently have (Brother inkjet mfc420) is that if an ink cartridge is low, nothing will work on the printer. It completely shuts down until you replace the ink cartridge. Even if you're doing black/white and yellow or blue is low, it stops working.

I'd like to stay under $100 if possible. Does anyone have a home printer that will still function if the ink is low or out?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Stay away from HP. I have only had HP (I have had 4- OK I am a slow learner and easily influenced) and have had many issues with each one I own. Now the one I own has individual ink cartridges that cost a fortune to replace. Please let me know what you decide. I want to replace this "money-pit". Thanks and good luck!

Anything HP. It's completely worth any extra expense. I have also had a brother & it was worthless. I also used to sell office products to large corporations & in that experience HP had far fewer problems.

I love my multi function - it is not under $100, but I think it was worth the $$ and works when toner is low. Yes, it actually has toner not ink cartridges. It's the Samsung CLX-3175FW. If you can find a used on in your budget I'd highly recommend it. I work from home and this machine works as well as the larger Xerox machine I used in my old office. It scans to pc and can save files as pdf, which is pretty much my main use for it. It has a feeder tray for the scans/copies as well.

I have the same printer same problem I went to office max and they claim all printers need 4-5 colors now. Now two of us have that problem and are looking for answers.

I have a Lexmark 7150X and I love it if one ink cartridge is low the other will still work obviously you would get color deviations but it work! You can absolutely find it under $100.

I've never had a multifunction printer, but my photo printer at home is an Epson. It uses the 6 different color cartridges (black, yellow, magenta, light magenta, cyan, and light cyan). With the colors split, you can replace each individual one as they run out. It does let you continue to print even if one is extremely low. I run them until it won't run anymore!! haha

We have an Epson Workforce 700 series and love it. I love the wireless feature. I can be working anywhere in the house on my laptop, print and have my papers waiting on me when I go to our home office to get them.

We paid less than $200. When I buy cartridges I spend about $100. I get the higher end Epson cartridges that last longer.

I have a used HP all-in-one that works. The hinge to the scanner portion is broken (it can still scan), but everything else is fine. You need to download the software directly from HP. I am looking to sell it cheap if you would like. If you are looking for a brand new one, I was at walmart a few weeks ago and they had an all-in-one for $60 on sale, I doubt it is much more now since it is a school supply.
