High Chair or Booster Seat or Both?

So confused. I've had my son sitting in his Bumbo seat with its tray for his first few eating experiments, but I realize he's ready to graduate to a real high chair...or booster. This is where my confusion lies. Does he need a high chair and a booster seat? It kinda seems like the same thing. I should also add I already have the Chicco seat that clamps onto the table. Is there a high chair or booster that you love? What features should I look for/care about? I'm sure there's great advice out there on this.

What can I do next?

Hi -- We have both a booster seat and a high chair. We keep the booster in the car -- traveling, eating out, picnics, friends w/o kids, etc. Both were given to us as shower gifts and it works for us. If you don't have a lot of room, go with the booster seat. If you're more comfortable with the high chair, get one. It all depends on space and comfort...and preference.

I agree with Bethany. It's funny because just last week I was having the same debate. I had been using the Bumbo up until then. I went with the Fisher Price Healthy Care Booster Seat. It's great! I leave it on the chair and even took it to my parents over the weekend. My daughter sometimes likes to sit in it on the floor while we play like she's a big girl. I bought it at Buy Buy Baby (Parker and 75, new to Texas and awesome!) and they said it's their #1 seller, even out sells full size high chairs. It's great. Good luck!

we used both and got our money's worth out of both! i got a fisher price booster for travel for about $25, and we use that at home still (my son just turned 3) for meals at the table. We used a high chair when the bumbo became too snug for my son. We have a Peg Perego Prima Pappa that we used from 6 months until about 18 months, maybe more like 2 years. Like I said, we still use the booster at the dinner table, and my little safety nazi still wants to be strapped in whenever he sits in it.

I think they both served their purpose perfectly. FYI, before we moved to the booster full-time, I kept it in my trunk so we'd have it on hand all the time.

There's actually a new high chair out there by Fisher Price - it's a 3-in-1 converts from high chair to space saver to standard booster. If they had been available 3 years ago I would have snapped it up in a second! My son got too big for a standard high chair and he's still too short at 3.5 to sit at the table without some sort of booster so I bought a cheapie at Wal-Mart. We have the Chicco which is a good high chair, adjustable, folds nicely wipes off easily and is neutral vs. some crazy print. But my complaints about it are 1) the tray is too big to fit in our dishwasher and 2) it really doesn't go low enough to fit under our kitchen table because it has a sort of lip that goes about 3 inches below the surface.

Hi! My daughter now 11 months LOVES LOVES LOVES the rainforest booster seat. It was 29 dollars at walmart I think. It is really popular and had tons of great reviews, so I bought it. It's great because it has a toy on the tray that you can remove, but it keeps them busy while you make their food, or while you finish eating etc. Now my daughter carries the tray toy around with her and plays with it during the day. She loves it so much my mom bought one for her house too. Also, you can take it to restaurants really easily, and it will keep him busy! Good luck.

I use the fisher price booster with the tray attachment. Saves alot of space!

I loved my Graco high chair because I could lower it so that it fit under the table like a chair. Once my kido's were old enough to sit at the table it worked like a booster. I also had the Fisher Price booster which I loved once they wanted to start sitting on the big chairs. I would suggest buying both. We used the booster for our friend who came over with their little ones. It was nice to have a second place to sit a child.

I have a friend that uses a booster type seat for her toddler; however, I use a high chair. It really just depends on how much room you have. We like the high chair; however, never tried a booster type seat soley. however, i can't think of why you would need both.
