I am now on heparin and am being induced at 39 weeks. I just want stories of other who were in a similar situation and how did the delivery go????

I am really looking for experienced people that delivered on heparin while induced. Please do not comment unless you fall into that category, My history really doesnt matter, the fact is I am on Heparin and an being induced in 3 weeks and want to talk with experienced mom's. By the way, it is very common for doctors to use this type of treatment for people with throbofillia. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Thankfully i didn't have to go that far, but I have the MTHFR gene mutation and was on aspirin for the first half of this pregnancy. I was originally told I'd have to take it until a week or so before delivery (and that if we lost a 3rd pregnancy, I'd be put on heparin), to avoid bleeding complications when I did deliver. I would figure that they will keep you on it for as long as possible and have you stop it within a safe time frame before delivery, other than the bleeding risk if you are on blood thinners and go into labor I was never informed of anything else to worry about, so I would assume your labor and delivery would be the same as normal.

Have to wonder why on earth you're on a blood thinner! Could you give us a bit more information?

My 14 year old threw a blood clot in her liver (surgery complication). She was on heparin, transitioned to Lovenox (shots in the stomach) and finally to Cumadin. She's been off of all blood thinners for 6 months.

If indeed you are on Heparin I would be concerned.

I have a blood clotting disorder and was on lovenox for both of my pregnancies. With my first, they switched me to heparin around 36 weeks b/c it's safer for L/D. I was induced with my son a day before his due date and everything was just fine. Went back to lovenox 6 weeks post and it was fine.

With my second son who was born 13 weeks ago, the same plan was in place. However, he decided to arrive at 36 weeks right before I was scheduled to switch to heparin so I never did. Couldn't get the epidural either becuase of the lovenox.

Anyway, I had researched a lot about these blood thinners ahead of time and several women have to be on them for medical reasons and do great. Nothing to worry about so good luck! :)

Due to having 4 miscarriages prior to my son's birth, I was put on heparin less than a month after becoming pregnant until birth. I gave myself two shots a day in my stomach. I was induced at 31 weeks, unfortunately it took 5 days of pitocin before I gave birth. The placenta started to detach and things were pretty scary for a while. My husband (but not me) was told that they may lose me and the baby due to bleeding that they may not be able to stop. My doctor was afraid that I may need a C-section because the baby was in distress, but did not want to do one because of the heparin. Fortunately all worked out fine. I was on heparin due to a condition that caused the four miscarriages, Auto Lupin Antibody Syndrome (this is not spelled correctly but for the life of me I can't remember the correct spelling). This syndrome caused my immune system to develop antibodies that attacked the fetus and caused the miscarriages.

I was on Lovenox for my entire pregnancy due to a clotting problem. The doctors induced me 2 weeks early to control the blood thinning. They took me off the Lovenox 24 hours prior; did a little test prior to inducing me to make sure I was clotting properly and all was fine! I know several in similar situations. All were fine. Best wishes.
