ok i know this is a gross question. but i have just started having really bad hemroid problems.
My poor hubby gives me Preperation H. But it burns. Is it suppose to?
And i also sometimes bleed. I don't know if this is normal or not. or if i need to go to the doctor.
Also is there anything that i can do to get rid of them?
because i'm tired of the hurting. and then tired of the burning. I mean the PH does help some, but i
dont know if it weights out to be better.

What can I do next?

Ah, you poor thing! My husband just went thru this ordeal and I felt so bad for him. First, see a dr. They gave him this foam type medicine that was expensive, but helped. In addition, you need to keep the area clean. He was showering (hot water) a couple of extra times a day. He also cleaned the area with Preperation wipes and Balneol. It may take some time, but be consistant in this routine, it will get better. Hope this helps!

a lot of woman have trouble during pregnancy or after giving birth and all those Tucks pads, etc are made from witch hazel. you can buy some or just use witch hazel on a cotton pad. I dont remember the witch hazel ever burning...

Hi there, Rachel

Don't know what area you are in but if you are anywhere near the Roswell, Ga. area, there is a new in-office procedure that takes no time and completely eliminates the hemorrhoids. The dr's. name is Goldman and he is in the professional building next to North Fulton Hospital on Alpharetta Highway in Roswell. Also, there is no downtime - you can go back to your normal activities after the procedure. Dr. Goldman is an excellent doctor and everyone in this area uses him. Best of luck, Rachel. M.

Along with a good fiber diet, get some stool softener so you won't strain at all. Take that regularly for a week, keep your anal area clean (with witch hazel pads) and lubed up with the PH (I know, ugh) that will prevent chafing and further irritation. If you aren't seeing an improvement in a week or so, see the doctor about getting a prescription strength foam to shrink the swollen tissue. I don't know how bad yours is, any inflammed tissue at all down there hurts terribly I know, but my poor hubby has this problem, when it flares up its severe. The swelling can go down, but the stretched tissue stays. The bleeding is normal by the way, it can be a shocking amount of blood when you have a BM. But as a woman, its a little more confusing for us, if you're sure its coming from your rectum and not your vagina then you should be ok. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!!!

Tucks Pads can help with the burn. However, if you have bleeding you really should see the Dr. Embarassing, I know, but.... Could be worse if a Hemroid bursts opens and bleeds through your clothes. Happened to my husband, at work, no less! They had to surgically remove them and he was down for only a couple days. You could also have fissures (little internal or edge cracks that bleed when you strain) and those are painful or can be. Mostly only bleed when having BM's.
To get rid of hemroids... softer stools will help, less straining. That's what they tell me. Fiber backs me up as does iron. I have to use Colace stool softeners and they help alot.
Please call your doctor!

I would definitely call your doctor - first, have you been diagnosed with hemorrhoids? Because, although that's the most likely thing, it could be something more serious. And, if you are pregnant, I wouldn't just take anything over the counter unless you speak to your doctor. And, as some of the other women have said, there are some good prescription medications that they can give you.

You poor thing! I know what you are feeling! If the hemmroids are that bad you should probably see a doctor to confirm the type and seek his/her recommendations.
I had the type hemmroid called thromboise (spelling?) it is the type that has dried blood, they still bleed but not in excess. My saying used to be "I didn't know your elbow was connected to your bum whole" because when I moved my elbow it radiated to my bum whole and shot some bad pain. I was out of work for a week at a time... doing sits baths with Epsom salt, using preparation H, Tucks pads - anything to make the swelling go away! The doctor prescribed an ointment that I don't think is any longer available, you could ask, worked great called Americaine - it was the best!
It got to the point that I couldn't clean house and go to town in the same day without suffering. The doctor recommended not having surgery until after I was sure I had my family complete!
So that is what I did, after my 3rd pregnancy at 28, I went for the surgery within a year or so..? I can say that the surgery was worth it, I have only had a few instances that I thought I may be having recurrences, otherwise, it was the best thing I ever did and it has been 17 years or so. The recovery from the surgery was tough due to getting constipated - actually impacted. Once over that it has been smooth sailing.
Another suggestion is a high fiber diet and drink plenty of non-sugar fluids - I eat oatmeal at least 5 days a week, an apple a day, and a cup of warm coffee in the morning seems to keep me on track.
Good luck - I truly feel for you.

You can use a numbing jel to help the pain. The strongest over-the-counter one is called Boil-Eaze---20% lidocaine. (Teething ones are usually 7%.) Also,(besides witchhazel), you should drink plenty of water and take fiber supplements to soften your stool and prevent straining. Bleeding is nothing to worry about if you're sure that's where it's coming from. It's caused by hard stools and straining. Good luck. N. (retired nurse)

I got hemorrhoids really bad when I was pregnant. I know all to well the burning and bleeding you are talking about. My OB prescribed me a prescription suppository and it worked wonders. You definitely, embarassing as it may be, should see a doctor and get some relief!!!!

Unfortunately I have dealt with this problem for many, many years. Ultimately mine got so bad I needed surgery. However, the majority of people never get to that point (seriously, don't worry about it getting that bad).

However, being an "expert" in dealing with the discomfort and pain I thought I'd add my two cents. Witch Hazel, PH and other creams help but what I've found to be the most effective (in addition to the cream) is taking an anti-inflammatory pill like Aleve. I take two and soon I'm a happy camper.

Good luck :)

I've had hemorrhoid problems for quite a while now, flared up even worse when I was pregnant to the point that I had to have one removed. Some of the worst pain I've felt in my life--try other remedies first before going the surgery route! I've tried Preparation H and the foam, but these never seemed to help. Desitin diaper ointment is the only thing that works. Stay away from caffeine (this seems to increase bowel movements), & take a fiber supplement every day--I put Fibersure in my cranberry juice every morning. The rectal bleeding is normal. I must admit, though, that ever since the surgery and post-pregnancy, I haven't had half the problems I had before!

Got the same thing going on right now. Picked up a bad bug from my kiddies and the hemorrhoids came.

1. Sit in a REALLY warm bath for at least 10 minutes - make the water as hot as you can stand it. Gives almost immediate relief. I did this in the morning and the evening.

2. Preparation H didn't burn for me but it didn't really help either. I got the suppositories OTC and used them a couple of times a day and I am *SO* much better. No more pain. I would do the suppositories right after I got out of the tub.

3. Also had bleeding as well. Had to do a stool culture - YUCK! Talk about gross. Anyway, the Dr. told me that the bleeding (especially if bright red) suggests that I probably have some inflammation that's occuring which is not as serious as if the blood were a darker color. Looks like my labs are coming back normal; just the irritation from the stomach bug.
