Help...I Am So Sick

Hello. I recently found out that I am pregnant for the third time. Both of my first two pregnancies were fairly uneventful. This time around I am so sick to my stomach all day long. I am not sure what the best way to handle this. I have two other children and a full time job to attend to. All I want to do is lay in bed as if I have the flu. What are some ways to deal with the extreme amount of nauseau I am experiencing.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks to all who gave me some advice. I tried lots of different things and ended up spending a day in the hospital due to being so ill and not keeping much down. The doctor has since then tried a perscription med that has helped somewhat but he pretty much said its part of being pregnant. Anyways, I am hanging in there...week ten. Lets hope this subsides after the first tri-mester.

Hi E.,
I was wondedring how the meds were working for you? My sister was on meds while she was pregnant with all of her children. (She has 4!) The meds cost a lot for her but they seemed to work.

I am also a big fan of the wrist bands. I ate triskets (saltines made me sick) and drank ginger ale. Good luck.

You poor thing! I can completely relate. I vomited my way through all nine months of my first pregnancy (complete with hospital stay for a few days at around month three for dehydration), lost all kinds of weight, had no energy and spent the time pretty much bed-ridden, worried sick that the baby was suffering. She came out just fine, thankfully. Second pregnancy, exact same thing. For both I tried everything listed here, plus the doctor had me try dramamine. My poor husband steeped ginger tea and tried to tempt me with every form of cracker he could find. Truly, a pregnancy like that is indescribable unless you've suffered it (not that there aren't worse things, but truly, it's so depressing to feel sick that long!). With my second, I finally found the solution on my own at around month four. After much internet research, I discovered the cure that Canadians have been using for years. It consists of one Unisom (you can start with half a pill actually - it took a whole one for me) at night before bed and a vitamin B-6 supplement every morning. The ingredients of the two constitute a drug that was used for anti-nausea in pregnancy years ago but then was wrongly blamed for birth defects and dropped in the US. It has since been proven NOT responsible, is still used regularly in Canada, and is to be re-approved in the US soon. It was a REALLY tough choice for me to go the medicine, I didn't want to take anything, believe me. Having a seven-month old to take care of (which was virtually impossible in my state) already when I became pregnant with the second though, prompted me to do the research. I was amazed by the result, it immediately took away the nausea, I took it from month four on (and personally I probably wouldn't have taken it until after the first trimester, even had I found it sooner) and my daughter is now a healthy happy eight-year-old.

If medicine is not the way you want to go, the only thing that made my life easier was not bothering to eat things that don't come back up easily or are particularly unpleasant coming back up. I know that sounds horrible - but it did make life more bearable. Some suggestions would be apple sauce, oranges, cinnamon life cereal, fruit loops, etc.

Good luck and hang in there - for some it gets better after that third or fourth month mark. :) Just do what you can do and let the rest go.

Do not feel alone E.. Within 6 weeks of being pregnant I was sick as a dog. I lost 16 pounds and was put in the hospital by 10 weeks along. I was diagnosed with hyper emesis gravida (excessive vomitting with pregnancy). I was nauseaus 24/7 and threw up all of the time. I finally was put on anti-nausea medicine and took it until the day before I delivered. I know what you are going through. If it gets unbearable, you need to contact your doctor about this. They can give you some ideas of what to do, if you do not want to resort to medication to help. Feel free to send me a message anytime if you have questions. Good luck!

Have you tried motion sickness bands? They are wrist bands that work the pressure points in your wrists. While they didn't completely eliminate my nausea, they definately helped! You can get them at any pharmacy or Meijers.

I am also a big fan of the wrist bands. I ate triskets (saltines made me sick) and drank ginger ale. Good luck.

Hi, I had the same problem with my second pregnancy. Someone all ready suggested the Sea Bands(motion sickness bands, Sea bands is the name on the box), but I'm going to do it again. They worked wonders for me. You can get them at just about any drug store. I got mine at Wal-mart. They have a small bead like thing in them that puts pressure on your wrist and it really helps. Make sure you read the directions and get the bead in the right place and I'm sure they'll help you. I hope you feel better!

increase your b-vitamins they help combat nausea and increase your energy levels Look for b-100 time release that wya you're getting it throughout the day.

also be sure you are eating something AT LEAST every 2hrs to keep the nausea at bay
