Help! Yucky Cat Urine Smell!
Hi - I'm looking for suggestions to help get rid of that nasty cat urine smell. Our cat got stuck out on our enclosed front porch one night, and needless to say, without a litter box, she was out of luck. I've treated the spot with baking soda and have left an open box of soda on the porch, and the smell seemed to get better. But whenever it gets humid, the smell comes right back. Do you have any ideas to get rid of it for good? I hate having that odor hit me (or anybody else who comes to our front door) when I go out on the porch. By the way - the porch is cement flooring. Thanks!!
So What Happened?™
Ok -so here is what I did. I had already put baking soda on the spot, so that seemed to help initially, but didn't finish the job. So since I already had bleach and vinegar here at home, I poured a 50/50 solution of vinegar and hot water over the spot. (There was still a bit of baking soda left, so it bubbled up and foamed for me.)I let it set for a bit, then poured hot water over it again to rinse it. I used a wet/dry vac and vacuumed up the liquid, then rubbed a thin covering of bleach over the area. I have a fan out there now drying up the bit of moisture that is left. I have Febreeze ready to spritz on there too. I did a close up sniff test, and the odor so far seems to be gone. Thanks you so much for all the suggestions! I've kept a list of all the suggestions of store products to use, so I'll have those as backup in case I need them!

Odo Ban is a great product for this!
Also you could sprinkle baking soda all over the spot heavily and then put vinagar on top the baking soda. it will bubble up and help neutralize the smell and if there is a stain.

Hi J.! I had two cats -- one of whom had a bladder infection and peed outside the litter box. What a problem! Since it's cement floor, I would scrub it hard with strong bleach water and let it dry. We did that on an area under carpet, let it dry for three days, layed new carpet, and never smelled it again. I know what you mean about the humidity and it returning, especially if people walk through that area. That's the last odor you want to smell. Cat urine is a tough one. Good luck!

Is there carpet over t he cement? If so, you need a carpet cleaner to get the urine up from underneath. If it's just the slab, I'm not sure why it still smells:(

Cement floor, YOU are LUCKY. That is fairly easy to get the smell out of. Use bleach and if that doesn't quite get it all try ammonia.
Also, your vet's office will probably have some spray (DON'T TRY HARTZ OR over the counter stuff in the store--it probably wont' work) that is made for that. Or you could also call a carpet cleaner place and ask them what they have.
Unfortunately sometimes we still get that smell around a bay window when it gets warm or hot outside. Of course that is all wood, which is almost impossible to get the smell out of, unless you rip out all of the wood and replace it.

You can buy stuff specifically to remove the odor from just about any surface and you would get it at a pet store. I don't remember the name of it, just go in and tell them what you are looking for and they will find it for you.
It works well!

Nature's Miracle ~ Just for Cats. I have seen it at Petsmart. There is a Nature's Miracle and then a special formula for cats in the cat section. Cat urine is a tough one to get rid of. Our cat had a bladder infection and went on our brand new couch. We purchased 4 different cleaners including a very expensive one from the vet and the Nature's Miracle for cats seemed to give the best results. The trick is to make sure you cover every drop of urine or you will still be able to smell it. Good Luck!

Start with white distilled vinegar and if that doesn't do it, try the enzyme products that you can get at your local pet product store. Vinegar alone really helps with dog urine-even they can't smell it anymore. The enzymes work great too.
Good luck.
