Help with Women Hair Loss Products/systems - Anybody Try Anything That Works?
Hi - for the last 3-4 years my sister has been complaining that she is losing her hair. I personally don't see it but I'm sure since it's her head she notices it more. Anyway, she wants to buy something that will help but there are so many products out there and most of them are very expensive. She doesn't have a lot of money so I would hate for her to be just throwing it away on some product with a really good infomercial. I think she's tried rogaine with a little success, but stopped and now she says her hair is really starting to fall out - lots of it every time she washes her hair. Does anyone know of a product that actually does work and maybe a success story of you or someone you know thats used it? Thanks!

Hi L.!
I hate to beat a dead horse here, but I agree with the other ladies...maybe not about the thyroid issue, but just that there is a likely chance that her hormones are out of whack.
My mom (who is young...16 years older than myself) was losing her hair to a noticable point. She went to a women's wellness center and had labs drawn which determined that her testostorone and estrogen levels were VERY low. Once she began supplementing her hormones her hair filled right back in.
Good luck!

Hi L.,
I actually would be trying to find out why she's losing her hair. Anything she uses will just be throwing her money away if she doesn't understand why it's happening.
Sorry, I know that's not the answer you were looking for but it's what came to mind.

First, it should be determined that she actually has hair loss occurring. The average person loses 50-100 hairs per day (which is a lot); however, most people don't realize this. Moreover, if she has been doing chemical treatments to her hair (e.g. home perms/colors) this could cause her hair's balance to be off. She should either talk to her hair stylist for product recommendations and concerns.
Another avenue she could pursue is to talk to an employee from Sally's Beauty Supply for possible products that could help as it is open to the public (license required to purchase colors/perms though).

Dear L.,
First of all the more she worries about her hair falling out, the more will fall out - because stress is one of the major contributory factors that makes us lose hair.
De-Stress!
As a Health and Wellness Advisor I would also recommend that she get on a very good nutritional program to give her body the nutrients she is lacking. Start from within. This video will help to understand what a good Nutritional program should do. It is password protected, here's the user name and password:

Third - Use hair care products that provide a nutritional benefit to the scalp and have been clinically tested on humans http://www.shaklee.net/ser/product/HairCare This particular line not only has been tested and proven to increase new hair growth but is Guaranteed to satisfy
the customer or your money back!
Fourth - If you think it would be beneficial - I can also send you a verbal testimony, via email, from someone who suffered from Alopecia (mysterious hair loss) - she tells how she got results.
I don't charge for these services because, I myself, was without finances and totally disabled in 1994. Today, I feel better than I did at the age of 23 and I work from my home and for myself. I feel priviledged to be able to provide the service.

In regards to products. There are a few systems out there. I personally like the Nioxin system. It is a three step process; Shampoo, Conditioner & Scalp Treatment. What I noticed in using it, is it slows the hair loss. I used it everyday through the first system and then have gone to only using it with every other washing and it works like a charm. You can get this at a beauty supply store or some salons, but I personally purchase it off of E-Bay.

I agree that if your sister feels she is losing more hair than what is normal, she should find out the cause of the problem. Vitamin deficiency and thyroid levels come to mind.

Hi L.,
You might want to have your sister see her doctor and have her thyroid checked. My sister had the same thing going on, and her hairdresser was the one who told her it could be the problem. Sure enough, her thyroid was underactive. When she started taking medicine, it corrected itself.

Hi. I am a hair stylist...and the best thing you can get besides going to a doctor is Nioxin. They have different treatments for what kind of hair you have. It should tell you on the box what each number stands for. But I would get the Shampoo, Conditioner and leave-in-treatment. Best advice is don't buy it at any store...most of the salon stuff sold at regular stores are past expiration or watered down-making them not work as well. I would find a salon that sells it and go that route! She really does want to do something now though b/c if she waits the hair bulb could actually die and hair won't ever be able to re-grow in that spot. So if she catches it before it dies she can replenish it and help the hair grow back! Hope it helps!
