Help with Trying to Potty Train My 3 Yr Old

I have a three year old son that use to go to the potty while in daycare but since I have taken him out of daycare which is been about 6 months.. He refuses to use the potty. I have tried everything I can think or my friends have told me to do.. anything from the cheerios to just using regular underwear on him. When using cheerios, all he wants is for me to get on the potty on shoot the cheerios and when in underwear.. he will just let it go on the floor and then dance in it. I am just a bit frustrated with the training him and my mother said he will do it at his own time. I even let him pick out a new potty chair.. the one that fits the big toilet and new underwear but that didnt seem to work either. Is there anyone that can help?????

What can I do next?

We bribed my daughter with money, one coin (whichever she picked out of a bowl) if we asked her and then she went, 2 coins of she told us she had to go, and a dollar bill if she poo pood on the potty. She loves to put money in her bank. We had her potty trained in a couple weeks, she has now potty trained herself at night. She was approx 18 months. My son is 17 months now so here in the next few weeks we are gonna work on it with him, he loves money also, but think time I think I will get penny rolls, we would never use our change and had to keep getting change and it was killing us. Also with my daughter we didn't put her potty chair in the bathroom till she was used to it. I didn't want her to feel like it was a punishment and had to go to the other room to do it. Some people may not like to do that, but I think that helped us alot. Good luck!

My son is 2 and finally potty trained. I told him that since he's old enough to go by himself, he was old enough to clean himself up. I gave him the wipes, a pull-up and told him to wipe his own butt.

From that point, he went by himself. There were times he didn't or times of accidents, but mainly he did it himself. I also created a Reward board and told him whenever he got whatever number of stars in a week for pottying on the toilet, we would do something he loves like go to Chuck E. Cheese. He was so excited to put the stars on the board because he loves to go to Chuck E. Cheese!

Hope this helps.

He is not ready. Save yourself the frustration and put it on hold and try again when he shows more interest. Your child will feel your frustration and this will only set you back further. Relax, change some more diapers, and enjoy your child.

He had a big change just like mine did when we got him potty trained. He left daycare which was a huge part of his routine and schedule. He is probably just trying to adjust and get used to not being in his normal routine. My son had a baby brother come home 3 months after we got him potty trained and guess what? He magically forgot how to go again. After talking with him getting on to him making him sit on the potty chair he finally asked us why does the baby get to go in his pants & I have to go in the big boy toilet?

They are pretty smart and some times all it takes in finding out what is going on in their little heads is to just ask them and try to be consistent and maybe when he gets adjusted to being out of daycare he will once again be in a routine for potty training. I know when I was on maternity leave part of it was the babysitter had SET times they all went to the bathroom as a group after snacks, Lunch, and active playtimes and that was what motivated him was everyone else was using the potty too. I didn't know when her "Potty times" where and had him home for awhile just long enough to mess his world up for about 5-6 months after going back to her house it took us to get him RE-potty trained especially with boys you do not tell them when to get potty trained they tell YOU when they are ready. The little girl at the babysitters was potty trained 2 months after her second birthday. My son at around 4 years old & my friend with 5 boys around 3-4yrs old too. Girls catch on MUCH faster in potty training I am told. I am getting ready for round 2 here in a few months with the baby so looking forward to it too;)

It will happen just give it time no child starts school in diapers

Good luck
