Help with Pregnancy Associated Congested Nose!
hi, mommies! i am 17 weeks pregnant with my second child, and my nose is driving me crazy! i don't really remember having a congested nose with the first pregnancy and i wish i didn't have it now! it is either running or congested but the worse thing is that it is almost always congested to the point of closing while i am sleeping! i have tried the vicks stuff in the air as well as the breathe-right strips with no relief! i'd rather not take allergy medicine...any suggestions? anyone have this during their pregnancy (according to my book, it is pretty common!).
thanks for your help!

I had nose problems when I was pregnant and it's no fun. Have you tried a humidifier? It's worth a try. Good Luck.

have you ever considered nasal washes? It will cleanse the nasal passages of pollen etc. You can do it with a bulb syringe, mix 1/2 tsp of salt to 8oz of warm water, fill the syringe, tip your head over the sink and flush the saline into one nostril, it will run out the other side and then switch sides. Blow good to get rid of everything and you should be able to breathe thru both nostrils Try it at least once a day at whatever time you choose. Good luck.

When I had this problem with my last baby my OB recommended Afrin. It works like a charm and is safe for your baby. Only drawback is you can't use it for more than 3 days in a row. I would use it only at night for 2 days, then go 4-5 days without, then use again at night only for 2-3 days. It provides almost instant relief. I used saline nasal spray on the nights I did not use the Afrin.

Hi B..
Congratulations on your pregnancy! That's so exciting! I just had my second baby boy 4 months ago. I went through the same thing with the super-stuffy nose! I even got several nose-bleeds. I think the extremely dry, dusty climate here makes it worse! :( It's awful, because like you said, you can't sleep at night, and you're so exhausted! I also tried the nose strips. They actually did help me a little bit, but I doubled them up, and used two at once! LOL! I didn't use any allergy meds because I was worried about the little one. But, I did use Arbonne's Herbal Vapor Soak and Herbal Vapor Rub. I like Arbonne products because they are herbal and botanically based, making them 100% certified Vegan and Kosher. They never use any chemical dyes or fragrances, and no mineral oil or animal by-products. They are also hypoallergenic, pH correct, doctor tested AND recommended. If you're interested in checking them out or ordering them online, please feel free to visit my website at: www.mandyolsen.myarbonne.com. I'm also including a little more info about the products below. Good luck and happy breathing!

B.,
Just another wonderful symptom of being pregnant. I had similar issues with my nose during my pregnancy. I ended up getting bloody noses also from the dryness. Saline mist and nasal gel by Ayr worked the best for me. Ask the pharmacist and they will be able to help you find it. Hope this helps.

I am currently 24 weeks pregnant with my fifth child and have had the same congestion with every pregnancy. I have found that a warm wet washcloth on my face and pressure on my sinus cavities just below my eyes helps with the congestion and if that does not work I take Chlortimetron. i also have a friend who is 18 weeks pregnant and she takes plain Sudafed. Hope it helps!!!

Hello, Congratulations on the pregnancy. For congestion you can try Ocean Nasal Spray. It is all natural and then if you put Vicks on the outside of your nose it will help open it up. I had it as well during my pregnancies. Best of Luck!
