Help with Pain in Right Buttox

Hi moms! Please help. For the past week I have had a lot of pain in my right buttox and it shoots down to my leg. I am 25 weeks pregnant. I would just like some advice on stretches I could try to help with it. I am not really interested in taking anything for it. The pain is there all day even when I wake up in the morning. With my first pregnancy I had it on my left side and it would go away after rest but this pain doesn't seem to go away. I also am not able to go to a chiropractor as my insurance doesn't cover it.

Thanks for any help!

What can I do next?

Hi J.!

While I am no doctor I am going to give an educated guess that this is sciatica pain. Google it and see if that explains it better.

What I do for mine is lay on a tennis ball right on the spot in my bottom that hurts. It does hurt a little bit and as the pain goes away I will put more and more weight onto it. It fatigues the muscle and eventually will eliminate the pain running down your leg. I learned this technique during a year in physical therapy for an injury I had.

Another option although not sure how you would get in a good position is to have your hubby gently "Elbow" the spot and go in small circles and gradually increase the pressure. I do this for my hubby and a few friends when they have the sciatica pain.

I wish you lots of luck and hope you feel better soon! Blessings to you and yours!

I agree with other posts ask you dr for PT referral. Also many PT are in Chiro offices and they will work with you and insurance!! A Chiro will DEFINTATELY help!! Most Chiropractors relaly want to help you so seek one out explain your insurance and let them see what they can do.

Hi J.,

just a short remark, if you intend to heat the area, don't take a too hot a bath as it could be bad for the baby (overheating). Rather apply heat locally.
Good luck and get well soon.

Definitely sciatica. My husband had some physical therapy exercises he did for it, but I don't know if they would be the same for a pregnant woman. There should be information online, too. It's very common - ask your OB if they have any suggestions. They may have a sheet of stretches/exercises you can do. Alternating heat and ice packs may help, too. My husband used to massage that area for me when I was pregnant (it wasn't as bad as yours sounds, though.)

Yes, sounds like sciatica. You can apply some heat to loosen the muscle around the nerve that it is compressing and massage it with a tennis ball. In yoga you can try to do the pigeon stretch, or the figure 4 stretch, and don't forget to stretch out the muscles in the front of your hips, sometimes we stretch the hurt area, and we need to stretch the opposite muscles to help loosen it up. Sometimes you may have to wait for the baby to shift positions. Tell them to move on over. :)

Good Luck!
