Help with Monster Truck Movie Choice-

My sis's aniversery was last week, and we always do a little family dinner in honor of them. We make it about their little family, and call it their family day. We give gifts to the couple, which will be the sis above me, and gifts to the kids.. SO I gave the normal help mom out clothes for the kids gifts, but didnt really get them any "Them" presents as time was running short.. So their coming up to my house in a few days, and wanted to give the kids a child approved gift..

My neice is just a year old, so I fiured a baby doll, or something of the sorts..
My nephew is 2 1/2 & is monster truck/ hot wheels nuts right now, and recently had a monster truck video that came in a box of cerial. He wantched like crazy till the cheep thing broke.. Ever since then, hes been requesting the monster truck video, and each time mommy expains it broke, he gets this sad little didsapointed look on him..

Well being the auntie, I want to save the day, and give an awesome gift, so naturally thought Monster truck dvd. The only problem is, he doesnt really like the animated monster trucks, & the non- cartoon monster truck vides are filled with cussing, half naked girls, or some other kid un-friendly footage.. The one he had was perfect in that aspect, but I dont want to get him the same one..

Any advise on kid/family friendly, non cartoon, but exciting monster truck dvds? Maby one or 2 that your kids loved, and wore out, but met the child friendly criteria? :)

He also loves dirt bikes, and quads, and anything loud, anything that jumps, or does tricks, crashes int othings and just makes him jump up & down in his seat.. LoL. So any good off roading ones would be just as good too.. :) Thanks for the much needed advise in advanced!
-K.

My brother loved the Here comes videos. They were about tractors, fire trucks, construction site, but I don't know if they had a monster truck one. My brother (started when he was 3ish) would watch them over and over and then point them out to us with proper vocabulary when we were out and about. I also used them in my 1st grade classroom and the students loved them. The only problem might be in finding them. We had them on VHS. Good Luck!

They have things done by the History Channel. I don't think there will be cussing or naked girls.

I hope the link works. Let me know.

Try the History Channel's Modern Marvels: Monster Trucks. It's not made especially for kids but they still like it.

You sound like "The World's Best Auntie" :o) It's wonderful that you take your "role" as an Auntie to heart. Your family is lucky to have you.

As a mom, there are some things I "choose" NOT to get for my children, no matter how badly they want it.....it just might not be age appropriate. Maybe that's why she hasn't "run right out" and bought this for her son. So, before you buy anything for your sweet nephew, please make sure that your sister is OK with your purchase. Otherwise, another cool Monster Truck from Walreens will be just fine :o)

K., you sound like such a GIVING person. I hope that you are able to make sure you do not over-extend yourself when you become a Foster Mother. I appreciate you and others that open their homes for these children. You sound so giving, I wouldn't want you to get "hurt" someday.

Sometimes, when a person is that giving, then it becomes expected of them from others around them :o)

Blessings to you...

:o) N.

You need Dave and Becky!! When Curtis was about the same age as your nephew he discovered the Dave and Becky There Goes series at our local Hollywood Video, I found several of thier DVD's online at Amazon.com and purchased them for his Birthday..

They have There goes a Monster Truck, its extrememly kid friendly, its geared towards kids 3-8, Dave is a goof ball, and while I enjoyed them the first few times he pretty much wore me out on them! But he loved them!!

Thier company is called Real Wheels.. The adventures I found came 3 to a DVD or 1 to a VHS and we bought Rescue Adventures with There goes a Rescue Hero, Police Car, and Rescue Vehicle..
Truck Adventures with There goes a Fire Truck, Garbage Truck, and (Big Rig) Truck... Travel Adventures with There goes a Train, Plane, and Bus, we had a 4th DVD with There goes a Monster Truck and two others on there, its either gotten lost in one of our moves or my sweet baby angels broke it! but on VHS we have There goes a Helicopter, and There goes a Motorcycle..

The videos are informative, but set in a way that its keeps the young ones attention..

Good luck on this too!!!

There was a series called "there goes a monster truck" or "there goes a police car" ect. My son loved these movies and and they were really little kid friendly showing them just what they want to see. A real monster truck driving around. I would look on Amazon.com for them.

My son LOVED his monster truck video. It was called "There Goes Another Monster Truck" (or something very close). The main characters were Dave and Becky. She was level-headed and he was kind of a goofball like the Tim Allen of the monster truck world. No cursing, lessons to be learned, and good, clean truck action.

I hope he enjoys!

Jackie

P.S. My son is now taking Latin, is an honors student and wants to go to MIT, so my point is that he doesn't have to turn out to be a redneck if he watches the videos.;-P

You might check out what's available at the library to preview before you buy for him. There's usually a good selection available. My son loves the moster trucks but we've never seen a video... but he loves the Geo Tracks movies! They're all about trains and very kid friendly! Good luck!

Hi,
I have a boy. He is 8 now. When he was younger (& probably still now) he loved these DVDs http://davehoodentertainment.com/Main%20Pages/MONSTERTRUC...
There goes a monster truck (firetruck, dumptruck, etc). The are education videos for children on how all the trucks work and my children loved them. My daughter even watched them some.

Hi K.,

My son loves monster trucks too - and not the cartoons. The ones that my son loves are the Monster Jams videos from Hot Wheels which feature all of the "real" Monster Trucks that go on tour. We have two called Monster Jams, one is called Circuit Championship, and one is called Extreme Energy.

The only places I have seen these videos are Mervyns and occasionally Toys r' Us. I was able to find one online once. Hope this helps and good luck!

Although you said he didn't like any of the animated series, one that my 6 yr old still asks about is the Bigfoot presents Meteor Mighty Monster Trucks series. They are currently being shown on Discovery Kids & TLC (8am EST). If you see him between now & then you could have him watch one & see his reaction.... If he likes it, Toys R Us has carried in the past, the cars with a dvd.

Some live action, informative videos that my son has also loved are the "There Goes A...." series, below is a link to Amazon's website.

Good LUCK!

K.,

Don't know if you are looking for a little toy for your nephew, but often the Tonka trucks come with a DVD of the "real" trucks in action. We have a fireman one that follows the various trucks on a call and is action packed. Haven't watched it in a while, but my used to be 3 year old loved it. As a side note for your niece, a chunky puzzle or shape-sorter toy would be another good choice if she has too many babies (though my two year old would argue that there's no such thing!).

Best of luck in your foster-family adventure.

Hi K.-
I have two boys, 4 and 1 1/2 yrs. I happened to find this cartoon on the t.v. one morning by accident and both my boys go crazy over it!! It is called Bigfoot Presents Meteor and The Mighty Monster Trucks. Like your nephew, my boys also like anything with wheels and the bigger the better. It is a really cute cartoon and I have attached the link to the website that I have found for you to order DVD's from. You can check out the cartoon first if you want on the Discovery channel. I think that your nephew will love it!!

K., I can't remember the name of the video we watched hours and hours of when my son was little, but I think you can go to the Tonka website and look there. The video we had was all sorts of construction machines, now that I think about it, not just monster trucks. But we watched TONS of dirt being moved!!!
Good luck!

My son enjoyed 3 live action videos that are available at Netflix: "The Bigfoot Collection", "Modern Marvels: Monster Trucks" (from the History Channel) and "Hard Hat Harry: Race Cars and Monster Trucks." There are also some reviews online. Hard Hat Harry is a cheap production (a genie takes 2 kids to see how real monster trucks and race cars). Not too interesting for adults, but he received it as a gift when he was 6 and watched it quite a few times. The other 2 didn't have any swearing or naked girls.

I just want to say you sound like a true sweetheart and I want to congratulate you on your upcoming foster-parenting. I've worked with a foster family as a CASA and with kids in permanent placement with the state and it is tough work, but very potentially rewarding. I wish you and your soon to be house full of kids all the best and I'm sure you'll do a great job. (You sound very generous! I found that while gift-giving can be very satisfying with kids in placement, it's also easy to run into trouble. I enjoyed giving little gifts to my charges but in a rage it's the first target for destruction. I think it's a good idea to not buy the replacement, but let them earn money to buy it so they don't take stuff for granted.)

Do everyone a favor and get him a Thomas the Tank Engine video instead--great kid stuff, enjoyable for parents to watch with him as well, and then there are a whole bunch of train toys (Brio or Thomas look-alikes) which give him creative and imaginative play opportunities galore (instead of pre-prescribed tracks, he can make whatever he wants with them--my son played with his trains like the Thomas ones until he was 12!).
