Help with I Pod Shuffle
So, I washed my son's I-Pod Shuffle in his jeans pocket. Does anyone know if it can be fixed or should I just buy a new one?
So What Happened?™
Thanks for everyone's advice! We tried the rice thing and just letting it dry out for over a week, but it did not work. My son and I agreed that we were both at fault and he used a gift card he got for Christmas and we each paid half for a replacement I-Pod. Thanks again Mom's!!

I, as an adult, some how managed to wash my shuffle too. It takes a really really long time. They do dry out and it will work again.

When they repair electronics that have gotten wet they put them in a sealed container with a bunch of uncooked rice. Leave it there for about a week. The rice should pull any left over moisture from it. Do not try to turn it on for a week, or you will fry the circutry.
If you can remove the batteries do so. This works real well for cell phones. We found one that had been lost out in the snow all winter. We dried it out in uncooked rice, and it worked great.

That's funny.... the exact same thing happened to me with my son. He left his ipod in his shorts and I washed them. I was really upset and he was too. I felt it was his mistake due to him leaving it in his shorts and in the laundry basket. I dried it out and tried using the blow dryer a little. It ended up working on a docking station but not with earphones. It was still under warranty so I took it to the apple store and told them it would only work on a docking station. I didn't mention the washer incident though:) They gave me a new one without a problem. Hope that helps a little :) MK

Put it in a couple of cups of uncooked rice. It will help draw all of the moisture out. Which might be enough to save it. I would suggest leaving in it there at least 2 days.

Kiss it goodbye and get a new one.
Condolences.

I know of cell phones that have worked a few days after being washed or similar. I'd wait a week or so and see if it works after being dried out. Sometimes they can be quirky, but maybe not.

I'm going to be the mean one here. If he's not old enough to empty his pockets he's not old enough for an i-pod. He should buy a new one if this one doesn't dry out and work again.

Hi M. - first off don't turn it on so that you don't fry the circuitry. Put it in a warm place (not hot) like near a heater vent and let it dry out for at least 48 hours.
It might work but you'll likely owe your son a new ipod.
bummer!
