Help with Feeding 10 Month Old

My daughter has always been a good eater. She loves veggies, and will eat almost any fruit. Lately she has been more and more interested in what my husband and I eat. It has gotten to the point where even if she has just eaten she wants to try some of everything that is on my plate. I am a vegetarian and I eat a lot of raw fruits, veggies and bread so I let her try most of the things I eat. We also allow her to have some tiny bits of turkey and what not when we go to the local bagel place on the weekends. The past few days however, she will not eat any baby food! I bought some Gerber Graduates tiny veggies, and I have been cutting up fresh fruit we have at home but that is all she will eat! I thought maybe she likes the finger food because she loves feeding herself so I have allowed her to make a mess trying to feed herself baby food but she still doesn’t want anything to do with it.
I have no idea what to do next!! Any help would be great

At about 10 months my daughter (fifteen months) stopped wanting baby food too. She only wanted to eat things with her hands. So, we switched her to cut up fruit and veggies, enriched pastas (she really likes Barilla Plus rotini), rice mixed with vegetarian cooked red or black beans or low salt refried beans. She also liked whole wheat crackers and cut up cheese. And cut up hard boiled eggs.

hi well im a vegan and i was told by my doctor that for the baby to eat big food is ok as long as you cut it up good shes getting her nutrition thats what count . my daughter did the same thing . so i have a closet full of baby food.now but i just use it to mix up with the potatoes or veggies, let her make a mess thats how they learn about food. she will eat the beaby food once in a while just play the silly game of tricks to feed her, me and my husb have to wait till we are eating then slip in the babyfood, till now well w/b id love to talk more it does seem we have some common things peace and luV NTN

My daughter, Emily, was the same way as your little Nadia. As soon as she got a taste of "grown-up" food, she flat out refused to eat baby food. This happened at about 10 month, too. I just had to take the extra time to plan family meals that had items that she could eat.

You said you are a vegetarian. Although I am not, my family eats a lot of meat substitutes. The vegetarian "chicken" nuggest and veggie (spinich/artichoke and broccoli/cheese) nuggest that are found in both the freezer section and the "tofu" section of the grocery store are a great choice. You can heat them in the microwave or the oven. Just be sure to cut them up into tiny little bite sized pieces for her.

A few more items that Emily liked and were healthy were whole wheat pasta, avocados, YoBaby yogurt. Make sure the avocados are pretty ripe before you serve them to her.

It sounds like the fruits and veggies are going well... that's a HUGE deal. Some other thoughts are cheeses, toast, mashed/baked potato chunks, yogurt, and other meats (if you're willing; I understand as a vegetarian certain things may be out).
My kids both refused the Gerber stuff around that age too. They were WAY too interested in mommy and daddy's dinner!

Hi there, I'm a first time mom to my daughter who's now 13mths. She totally lost interest in baby food when she was about 10 months old also. It was hard enough trying to keep her on formula! DON'T WORRY!!! As long as she's getting healthy foods (ie: fresh fruit and veggies, and yes, some meats as long as they're cut up nice and small) she'll be FINE! My daughter now eats VERY well, and loves whole milk and fruit. Just try to keep her away from all the junk food and you'll be fine. Go with whatever feels right for you though, but if she's determined to eat big people food, just make sure it's nice and small for her little hands...Good Luck!

When my daughter was about 7 or 8 mos old a pediatric nutitionist told me that the nutritional contents of commercial baby food are very little and advised me to get a small food processor to puree the food I was fixing for my husband and myself. Just be careful of adding salt or a lot of spices.

I have a 9 month old son(my first),Aiden, that is starting to do the same thing.In fact, if he sees "real" food he will spit out any baby food that I managed to get in his mouth. I have begun giving him small amount of what we are eating (in small pieces of course). He loves spagetti, fries(I know they're bad...he only gets a few), rice, veggies, any meat in small pieces, bread, ect. There are just a few things I have to avoid until later, like shellfish, nuts, hotdogs. Maybe she is just ready for the different textures. Also, I can still get him to eat some stage 3 baby food (though, I'm sure for how much longer)!

Most likely your daughter has lost interest in "baby" food (assuming that this is jarred food) because she has now had a taste of something that actually tastes good, i.e. real table food. You can take the same things that you are eating and make your own "puree" or even give her chunks. At 10 months, she probably has enough teeth to be eating food that has texture.

There are some really excellent books available about making baby food, including one by Vickie Lansky called "Feed Me, I'm Yours".

Don't worry about baby food if she is eating a good selection of regular foods. If she has the teeth and desire to do so, let her eat like you do. Baby food is not a requirement - my son ate almost none and he is happy and healthy.
