Put him in a swing, bouncer, stationary play seat, etc. for a little while at a time. Him crying is normal. He's not in his environment and he's around two other small children. Get a sling or soft carrier to strap him to you for a little period of time when you can. Mostly, find out from the mom what kind of schedule he has at home and mimick that. Maybe he just needs to eat or sleep at times and you haven't done what his mommy would do. It's not your fault, but try to work with the mom and find out what she would prefer you do.

I second Faith R's suggestion. My first thought was to put him in a swing, but I think communication with the mom is key.
Good luck!

I also think a sling or some other carrier would be helpful. That way he'll be happy and you can still get things done.

Hi
It seams like he is starting to go thru separation anxeity My son is 6 months and he just started to do that I try giving him diffent toys everytime or in the jumper or walker. but sometimes he only want to be with me. also is his parnets holding him all the time at home that could be why also. also remember it is not you son so it will be alot differnt. Good luck

Hi A.,
Every parenting magazine, American Baby, Parents....All say that 6 mos old is the time when babies start to get clingy like that, they all reccommend that when you put him down you just talk to him and let him know what you are doing and where you are. He will grow out of this. Hold him when you can but the best thing to do is instead of holding him during "his time", sit with him on the floor and teach him or assist him with exploring on his own. This will encourage independance. Good Luck!! N.

oh gosh, u have your hands completely full. were u holding him alot that first week. if so, maybe he got used to it. or does he only cry when u are paying your kids more attention.

I highly recommend the ergo baby carrier, but there are many out there that might work well for you and the baby. Being held is so important, and with a good carrier you can offer that closeness and comfort while still having your hands free for the others. There's a monthly babywearing class at Rosemary Birthing Center in Sarasota. They had it this morning, but give them a call for the next date, or contact me and I'll put you in touch with the woman who teaches it. You can learn some great tips to make babywearing satisfying for you and the child.
