Help with Business Website
I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge about websites. I sort of have to different issues.
First my husbands company had to build a new website. The problem is when you try to google it the old website keeps comming up. It was very old and noone has any idea how to contact the company that created that one and they need to have it removed. Does anyone know how to go about doing this?
Second question: The person who built the new website says he only builds them and does not know how to get them picked up on search engines. I'm thinking it may not be getting located because we don't have enough keywords. Is there something else we need to do? Or has anyone else been through this.
Any help people could give us would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

1. You have to change the DNS servers in the hosting account (unless you're keeping the same people as before). If that's the case, then you'll have to take down and then put up the new site through a program like Dreamweaver or by using and FTP program.
2. It will be picked up on its own but it helps to have meta tags in the header written in.

I can ask my techie son about the first issue, the second one is one that you could study daily for a year and just barely scratch the surface, like I have done this past year. There are many ways and none is a guaranteed sure-fire one, but combined, many approaches will help you. Do not just be tempted to sign up with some company that sells ppc or web placement blindly, check them out first or you'll lose lots of $$$. see this web page for starters http://www.locallytype.com/pages/submit.htm
and do it yourself, I also have a great woman in ATlanta who is helping me with my web pages -- BEverly Mau. I will be happy to pass on her info: ____@____.com http://www.mauwebstudio.com

This is quite a difficult problem! I know someone who can help you but I have to tell you that this is an expensive problem as well as difficult. They charge $100/hr and is well worth it. You can contact www.areyouoverit.com and submit an on-line request form. Please note that I sent you (S. Eppley) and, well, sometimes who you know helps! They'll know how to help you. They're the best. I've worked with them for years. I actually have a meeting with them on Friday to help with my websites.
Good luck!

Too bad they didn't think to hire someone to do the new site that knows this stuff. That is what I do all of the time, I make the sites but do the SEO stuff WHILE I am building the website so that it doesn't have to be fixed afterward.
