I am having a hard time with a middle name for my baby expected in September. We know she is going to be Lily (after her great grandmother), but we need suggestions for a middle name...the one's I like my husband doesn't and vice versa....Any ideas? recommendations?

Thank you all for your help and input...keep it coming. We have a few of the names on the list and I have added some from these suggestions. Thank you. As for a family name...the name pool is shallow on my side. My maiden name is Harris and we thought Lily Harris, but just not sold on it...the other family names are Hazel, Ollie, Maude, Leota, Nellie, June, Irene, JoAnn, etc. Just nothing that flows with Lily. My mom's maiden name is Stock.

We do like Lily Grace, Lily Kathryn, Lily Morgan...but I am hoping that like some of you suggested it will just hit us....the names I bring up my husband vetos....because he knew a girl with that name once or something silly like that!

Thanks again ladies!!

Thanks for your help...

So What Happened?

So my little princess made her appearance 2 weeks early and we were still struggling to decide on a middle name. Finally when they threatened to not let us leave until we had the birth certificate paperwork filled out, we finally named her...Since she was born on my brother Brian's birthday. We decided to honor him. So it is official...Lily Bryanne. Ann and Anne are also the middle name for my sister and my sister in law...so they were honored as well. Thanks for all the help! On another note, it has been 7 weeks and we still haven't gotten Lily's social security card. How long does it normally take for that. I have to refile all her insurance claims once I get that.

Thanks again,
A.

I think the name Lily Marie flows really well together. If and when I decide to have a daughter, I have chosen the name Kaitlyn Marie or Kaitlyn Sierra

I think I have to agree with the majority here...Lily Grace is my favorite. I have a friend who has a daughter named Lillian Grace and I've always thought it was beautiful.

A friend of mine named her daughter Lilly and her middle name is Faith. I personally like Rose for a middle name if you aren't using a sentimental or family name. :)

You might try going outside the baby books for names or giving family names another chance. My oldest is named after my grandmother. Growing up I had never given a lot of thought to her name. When I was pregnant my husbandsaid he though we should name the baby after my grandmother because she was so special to me. When he said her name it sounded really pretty. Now I have a Marietta. My husband's nephew died right before I became pregnant so we decided early on that the baby's middle name would be Sean, after him. When it was a girl we changed the spelling to Shawn because it looks a little more feminine. Shawn isn't necessarily my favorite name, but it just seemed right. As for my second child, we considered the middle name Gladys after my husband's Nanna who is 95. I don't really like the name Gladys, per se, but she's an amazing person and we figured that if our child ended up with 1/2 the strength and courage of Nanna, she'd be amazing too. So we almost had a Caroline Gladys. We ended up not going with Gladys because we just couldn't make it work with our first choice of name- Charlotte. We ended up with Brae as her middle name. It's not a name you'll find in baby books. It's a Scottish Highland word for a hillside along a river. My husband is British and we visited a special family site in Scotland that included a hillside along a lake when I was pregnant. Maybe you could look in a foreign language dictionary for a word that sounds pretty and has a nice meaning.

I have a daughter named Lillie. She is named after my mother (Lillian). My mother never liked her name and had requested that she not have a namesake, so I named her Lillie Annalise. I also liked the name Lilliana. We have a common last name and I felt that her middle name needed to be a little different since Lillie is fairly common. God Luck and congratulations!

I had such a difficult time naming my second boy that, that was the only thing holding us in the hospital after he was born! Lily is such a beautiful name...my neice is Lily Adeline and Lily Elizabeth is lovely as well.

Perhaps if you and your husband separately looked online or in a book and each compiled a list of ten names you like, it will help to narrow it down to something you like.

Good luck!

Congrats. I love the name Lily. I also love family names. Do you have any maiden names you can use? How about your mother's maiden or you husband's mother's maiden name?

lily was actually one of the names that i considered for my daughter.(she is a Vanessa though) the middle name that i had picked with it was Anne. i felt like it flowed so well, because it almost sounds like Lillian. i have found over the years that i call my children, and nieces and nephews, by there first and middle names all of the time. not just when they are in trouble. i always call my daughter Vanessa Lynn, my son David Allen, and my niece and nephew Caroline Grace and Avery Curtis. for that reason, good flow from first to middle name is really important for me. good luck, and remember that after 6 months, no matter what name you choose, you will think that it is perfect for your little lily.

I think with a short first name that you could possibly go with long middle name, like Alexandra or Katherine. Or is there a combination of names that you and your husband like? For example, if you like Kate and he likes Lyn, you could do Kalyn.

Oh my...there are so many! I love to sit and think of baby names! =0) Here are a few I thought of:
Lily Lee, Lily Jean, Lily Marie, Lily Shannon, Lily Sue, Lily Gayle, Lily Rae, Lily Rain, Lily Rose, Lily Giselle, Lily Gwen, Lily Reese, Lily Renee, and of course the popular Lily Grace. I have a Jenna Grace, so I'm partial to that one. But, I think I really like Lily Rose...two beautiful flowers. =0) Good luck and have fun thinking! Please let us know what you pick, ok!

Rose
Belle
Anne

Give Macy a list of names that one of you/both of you like, read each one and tell her to pick. Or ask her some of her favorite names and why...
My first born chose my baby's name, while I was pregnant, when he was 2.5 years old Travis (after Travis Pastrana the dirtbike double backflipper) middle name: Anon (which is my g. grandmothers first name spelled backwards Nona) My oldest never hit that jealous stage with the newest addition b/c he got to be such a big part of it -- chosing his first name! You'll have a story to tell about your big girl Macy and she'll feel like a big part of bringing baby into the family. :) MY KID IS NAMED AFTER AN EXTREME SPORTS FIGURE... a sentence I never thought I'd say ;) good luck!!

I like Lily Grace personally....an idea though so that you are assured you and your husband both agree on the middle name is to go through a baby name book....have him go through it and write down all the names he likes for a middle name, and then you do the same without sharing with each other until you both have gone through the book....then see what names you had in common. I did this with my third son for his first name actually and his name was the only one we happened to agree with (his name is Jared). It made me feel good that we both agreed on a name without one of us influencing the other on the decision.

A., Is there ANY other family names or even last names that could be used as a middle name..
I do like Lily Grace...
But I think there are more possibilities.... ;)

why don't you give us a few to chose from?

You could go with 2 middle names that is a newer thing but it does occur.

I also like Lily Grace, Lily Diane, Lily Beth, Lily Hope, There really is a lot to choose from, When you hear it you'll know it. I was going to name my daughter Delaney Morgan almost my whole pregnancy. Then at the last minute, like 2 weeks before she was born, I decided I didn't like it. I started looking in every magazine I came across, like in the section where they list the writers and editors, and I came across McKenna as a person's last name, and it hit me "McKenna" will be her first name. The middle name Grace just kind of flowed, as in God's Grace. Try looking in unexpected places for names, like in the credits of movies. I thought McKenna Grace was very original 7 years ago, but I know 4 McKenna's and 3 of them are McKenna Grace. It's hard when you can't agree, but you'll find the perfect name eventually. Good Luck!
