Help with 2Yr Olds Hair Care

I have a 2yr old with alot of hair. I was using baby shampoo when she was born till about when she was 1yr old, she just seemed to have an itchy scalp. So I switched to Loreal's kids shampoo, but she still had an itchy scalp. I went back to the baby shampoo for toddlers. But still the same result. She gets itchy and her hair gets tangles. I am looking to see if there is anyone out there with some suggestions on what kind of shampoo I could use to help with the itchy scalp and help with the tangles. When I mean she has alot of hair picture Dora the Explorer just with more puffy hair..that is my daughter. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you ahead of time...

What can I do next?

I don't know about the itchiness, but the tangles are my everyday experience! The Johnson and Johnson leave in creme conditioner works wonders for just out of the bath...then I use the spray detangler for fixing car-seat hair!

Hi A.,

She may be allergic to a common ingredient in most shamppo's which is Quaternium-15 http://dermnetnz.org/dermatitis/quaternium-allergy.html

My son is allergic to it and it took a while to diagnose. I only use products from Melaleuca - The Wellness Company. I use the kids line on him, but the Herbal Shampoo for me and my daughter and I also use their detangling spray for my daughter. The Melaleuca-Alternifolia Tree is also known more commonly as the "TEA TREE" which produces Tea Tree Oil. It's oil has many beneficial, cosmetic and antiseptic properties.

Hope this helps!

Burt's Bees has a great line of stuff...my uncle uses their shampoos and conditioner and he has severe dry scalp. My good friend has always used their baby line, and loves it. Her little girl suffered from flakey scalp and their stuff worked great for her.

We have tried tea tree oil for our dry itchy scalp. I found it at Walmart for a couple of bucks and just rub a couple of drops into the scalp and the dry skin surfaces and then it doesn't itch anymore.

Hello! Can't help with the shampoo, but try Johnson & Johnson detangler - it is a leave-in conditioner for toddlers. That helps a lot. I have also used my Dove conditioner - my daughter has thick curly hair, and she HATES to have it combed, so I have to use a conditioner or detangler so that she won't scream.

There could be 2 reasons why her scalp itches, one is all of the shampoos not being rinsed out completely or going to long without washing hair the other reason could be the shampoo/conditioner scalps become itchy and flaky because of sulfates and ph balance. A salon product called ENJOY is what you need and stick with it, they have a sulfate free shampoo and a great leave in conditioner. PH is very important.

Hi.

I use Suave's detangling spray for my daughter's tangles. She is six, but I have used it for years. It is really inexpensive and works just as well as the pricier ones (I've tried them).

My daughter's hair is long so we braid it at night and that helps us with our morning routine because it is not a rat's nest.

Good Luck.

A.,
My daughter has very curly hair and I use Pantene Smoothing Shampoo & Conditioner. I comb the conditioner through her hair in the bath. I keep her hair in a ponytail most of the time to help keep the tangles down. Good luck!
