Hi,
I know it sounds silly but my ob/gyn retired and I am looking for a new one.
I have real anxiety about all doctors and need someone that is warm, caring,
gentle, and will put me at ease. My blood pressure goes up and I worry for days
before the appointment. No bad experiences before, just have always had the anxiety.
I would prefer one in the Mesa area as I like to get there quickly. If you suffer from
the same or know of a good doctor please give advice or a recommendation. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much to each and every one of you that took the time to contact me. I ended up going with Dr. Eric Huish in Gilbert. He had 3 recommendations. It turned out that I work with his sister-in-law and she also recommended him highly. He was JUST what I needed. From the minute I walked in the front door I feel nothing by kindness and warmth from his office staff. Dr. Huish was wonderful. He spent time with me in his personal office before we even entered the exam room. He went over my history thoroughly and answered all my questions, efficiently, and compassionately. He then even escorted me to the door of his exam room. I've never had a doctor (new patient) take the time to visit with me away from an exam room, first. It really put me at ease. Once I got in the exam room he was kind, quick, and explained each and everything he was doing. I felt as totally as ease as you can be. I would recommend him highly for anyone with any kind of medical personnel anxiety. I had a wonderful experience here. Thanks again to all of you that offered care and support. You are wonderful!

I highly recommend Dr. Tamar Gottfried (or spelled Gottfred?)in Mesa over by the Target on Gilbert and Southern. I do not like those appointments as well but she is quick and personable!

I've found just the doctor for you. His name is Eric Huish. He is near the new Banner Gateway hospital at Higley and the 60. He's my brother...but I'm not recommending him because he's my brother, but because everyone I know that goes to him absolutely loves him. He is very gentle, kind and compassionate. He's delivered 4 of my grandchildren, has done a hysterectomy on 2 of my sisters and a bladder suspension on me. I avoided going to my brother for years because, well, he was my brother! But, when my sisters talked me into finally seeing him, I found he was very professional. I receive excellent treatment...not because I'm his sister, but because that's the kind of doctor he is. I know, literally, dozens of women in Chandler and Mesa who have gone to Dr. Huish and they have nothing but wonderful things to say about him.

My ob/gyn is wonderful. Very warm and gentle with a great personality. His name is David Kells and the nurse midwife, Janice Bovee is fabulous too. They are in Chandler, which might be a drive for you, but it would be worth the trip. I travel a few miles to see them too. Their website is http://www.drkells.com/ and their phone number is ###-###-####. I also had a doctor in Mesa that I really loved, but is no longer covered by my insurance. His name is Dr. John Holmes, but that is all the information I can give you. He was a great doctor, but I didn't like his office staff. That may have changed though, since it has been 6 years since I have been there. Good luck!

Hi L.,
Your request actually is not silly at all. We see that many women have anxiety about coming into the GYN office. Funny enough, even those of us here in the office, need the constant reminders to get our PAP's. So its definitely normal to be a bit apprehensive, especially when looking for a new doc. Anyway, one of our patients already recommended us (Dr. Christine Brass-Jones office- The Center for True Harmony Wellness and Medicine), but I just wanted to add the note that having some anxiety is normal. Just take some deep breaths, Trust that you have good recommendations for finding your next doc, and keep breathing! I know many of the docs that are recommended, and I too put my 'stamp of approval' on them!

I love my OBGyn Julie T. Adams. She is my age (around 35). Very nice and friendly, yet knowledgable and professional too. It is a women only place called Valley Women for Women. THey are always very nice and friendly, and not too formal to make you feel uncomfortable. She even hugged me when she gave me bad news. Her office is on Gilbert Rd. near Guadalupe.

I'm the same way but have really been comfortable at Oasis OBGYN. They're on Brown, a little East of Recker in Hershey Plaza. The two doctors, Ballaro-Anderer, and Messer are great. Everyone working there is a woman. The office is very peaceful and home-like and I was in there so much with my troublesome pregnancy that the office ladies started to feel like family. Hope that helps.

Hi L.,

Have you thought about seeing a Naturopathic Medical Doctor? The care you receive is so different because they actually LISTEN to you. Your first appointment is usually a 30-40min intake to talk about your life so they can get to know you as a whole person. Natural medicine has changed my life in that I am healthier physically and emotionally as well. You can find a physician near you by going to this website, www.AzNMA.org. I used to see Dr. Dana Keaton in Phoenix and she does ob/gyn. Good luck!

I have never experienced the phobia, but have had issues that required confidence in my GYN. I love mine. It's Daniel Dowswell. He's on baseline between higley and greenfield. His PA, Talia is also awesome. You never feel rushed, all your questions are answered and I have never been made to feel like my questions are dumb or unimportant. I have been with his office for 14 years now and I would be so sad if I ever had to change...

Hello L.~

I have a great one too...but she is not in Mesa, sorry.
If you are willing to take the drive to Osborn & Scottsdale Ave., I highly recommend her.
You can check out her website here at this link:
http://www.desertjewelobgyn.com/default.htm
Her name is Courtney A. Hunt, MD, FACOG

Well worth the drive if you ask me.
She has been my OBGYN for the past 5 years and she has delivered my last 3 babies...and will be delivering our latest due in May.

Good luck on your search.

I had my worst experience at Dr. Christine Brass-Jones' office. I always had to wait at least 30 minutes for every appointment. Her office staff is not friendly and extremely unprofessional. They didn't bill my insurance ontime so I had to pay for my annual exam out of pocket. I could go on and on. I went there for 2 years and I will never set foot in that office again!
