Help W/peanut Allergies

I sit for my girlfriend who is going through a divorce. She works nights and picks up her kids in the morning from ex-hubby who works all day. The little guy has a peanut allergy and seems to get welts from pizza. Anyone know the connection? I shopped in Wal-Mart today and it seems that all the home kits are made in the same plant that processes peanuts/walnuts. What we are wondering, is it the sauce or the dough? Thanks for help, C.

What can I do next?

I used to teach at a school where many children had this allergy. If you read ALL the very fine print on the food items it should tell you if it was made near or with a peanut/factory. Unfortunately most items are. Publix seems to have the most items that do not contain any trace of peanuts.

My daughter also has peanut allergies and it has been a nightmare for us. She is 2 years old and I have already had to administer the EPI-Pen twice.

My allergist has told me that she is the highest level (airborne allergic) and we have to be extra careful with her and what she is around.

Last month when we were at the allergist I asked the question about the statements they put on the back of products "Processed in a plant that processes peanuts...." and what that meant for my daughter. She said the manufacturers put that on the product to cover themselves and that it is really not a concern. She reccommends that we test my daughter every year for new allergies. She has developed allerigies to cats, dog and now soy, and the allergy to peanuts has increased to airborne/life threatening.

My advice to you is that you have him tested again as it may be that he has developed an allergy to soy, milk or whey. Which would make sense in your situation.

Hope it helps!

The oil that the pizza is made of may contain peanuts. The child might also have an allergy to milk. Do he have a problem with any other dairy items? My son is allergic to milk and eggs and breaks out in hives when he comes into contact with anything that might have those ingredients in them. That includes pizza.

Here is a helpful website I found for my son and is dairy alergy. If the little guy likes pizza you can search of a recipe that is peanut free.
Make sure you both read all the ingredience on packages and know that most all resaurants will cook with peanut oil.
