Help to Keep Daughter Out of Lazy Susan Type Cabinet

I know most of the other moms have given advice on how to keep your daughter out of the cabinet. Perhaps as a grandma I would spoil her a little more and just let that cabinet be hers until she gets bored with it--especially if there is another place you could keep your appliances for awhile. This would allow her a place she really likes to explore. Just another opinion!

Maybe if you have a handy hubby he could put a latch of some sort on it that you could work but her little fingers cant figure out yet. Or...is there another cabinet door nearby that you could use a small bungee cord to anchor the lazy susan door to so that she cant swing it open?? They also have those commercially made latches that fit on the INSIDE of the door...you have to put your finger in and depress one section of it in order to open the door...hopefully it would be a while before you little one figured THAT one out!!!

I have the same thing...I have an entire cabinet that is a lazy susan...I rearranged my food and only put cans where she could reach...she used to open the cabinet and sit on the bottom self and spin the lazy susan around...I do have another lazy susan cabinet as well...I just put the tool box in front of it so she could not spin it around...that cabinet has kitchen appliances...I did not want a latch on it either...the heavy tool box worked...stubbed my toe a few times but it worked...

the link that gale posted looks like it'd be perfect - we have cabinet locks but no lazy susan cabinet so i'm not sure what would work for you. what i wanted to say was that you might as well get it done now - if she's 10 months old, you have (from my count) at least 15 more months of this (my son is 25 months lol) and probably many more beyond that, to deal with it. we have now moved our baby gates from penning in the livingroom, to blocking OFF the kitchen and bathroom lol. you'd think after about 15 months of me telling him "no" he'd figure it out, but dang it there always seems to be something NEW to get into! good luck! :)

one step ahead is a great website for this sort of thing. they had a fireplace thingy to keep our girl from slamming her fingers in the glass. :-) Here's what I found for lazy susans:

We used the Safety 1st lazy susan lock item 11621. I believe we bought it at Babies R Us in KC. But, I didn't see if on the babiesrus website.

Rather than lock the cabinet, I put all of our Tupperware and plastic containers in the lazy susan. Yes, sometimes it causes a mess, but it's great fun exploring.

As a mother of 5 my best advice to you is to make it her cabinet, let her enjoy it and put those small appliances in another locked cabinet. Her days of Lazy Susan fascination will be short-lived; trust me the time goes by WAY too quickly. Enjoy those simple pleasures while you can!

Babies R Us has the lock for the lazy susan, but I agree with another post on using tot locks. Babies R Us also carries them, they are a bit more expensive, but WELL worth it. They don't wear out and you can always turn them to an off position if you no longer need them. Good luck!

Walmart has a refrigerator lock that could work. It keeps my kids out.

It works with a magnet, and doesn't even show from the outside. We keep the magnet that opens it on top of the refrigerator so that we can reach it but the kids can't.

I wish I had some real words of wisdom here--but all I can say is---this too shall pass. As a Mother of four---three of which are boys---they all enjoyed my lazy susan. It was a merry-go-round of sorts for them and looking back now that they are older and past the "lazy susan" days, my hearts aches a bit to see their smiling whymsical smiles peak out from that lower corner cabinet. Take your daughter's picture! Play along---enjoys these moments! Because soon enough---sooner than you realize she will grow out of it! Change your outlook from the annoyance of it all to see and enjoy the wonder in your daughter's eyes.

T. I did not have a lazy susan cabinet when my babies were young. I want to see what great ideas the other mom's have for you. G.

My husband put 2 of the cabinet type of babyproofing locks on our lazy susan cabinet door (one on each side at the top) and problem solved for us! He positioned them so they catch on the upper edge. I have to push it down to get into it, sometimes on both sides, but it is VERY worth it to keep our 14 month old out of the cabinet. You might try it, it would be a cheap solution if you have some extras from your other cabinets. We got ours at Target.
