Help to Childproof Fireplace

We are trying to get the different products that we will need to babyproof our house before our little one starts crawling. We have a corner fireplace that has a hearth that is about 1 foot high. I have checked some products at Target.com and Babies R Us, but I want some advice on which one to purchase. The hearth does not have 90 degree corners - the two corners are more like 120 degrees and we'd need to have something flexible to fit. Let me know if you have any product suggestions. Thanks.

What can I do next?

We tried those foam edge covers but they don't stick. I had decided to use the foam puzzle mats, but wanted something that coordinated with my family room. So, I got a layer of 1-inch foam from the fabric store, found some nice fabric, cut the foam to where it overshoots the edge of the hearth about an inch, and had my mother-in-law cover the foam to make what looks like a seat cushion for the hearth. We get compliments on it all the time and it's is often used as an extra seat when we have lots of company.

talk to Jack at Infanthouse.com he can give you some great ideas and very reasonable prices. He specializes in infant safety proofing.

We bought this product and LOVED it. www.babysafetyfoam.com Brick/rock is a super hard surface (duh!) and we were concerned about a fall into the side of our tall hearth, as well as the corners.

We have ours covered with a foam alphabet mat (like the kind you would lay out on the floor). It's not too expensive and it covers the entire surface of the hearth.
