Help!!! My son will be 7 months old next week (where has the time gone :-)) and he has cut four teeth so far. The first tooth he had gotten a little fever and was a little cranky. The second tooth came right after the first and his third tooth we didn't even know he was cutting because he wasn't phased by it. Beginning this week he started to cut three other teeth. On Wednesday the fourth tooth cut through but the other two haven't yet cut through. We've had a really rough week with our son. He normally sleeps through the night and is a pretty happy baby. He has been really cranky and he has been waking up constantly through the night. My husband took him to the doctors today because we weren't sure if he had developed an ear infection because he has been congested and coughing with a really runny nose. His doctor said that he doesn't have an ear infection and said that he is most likely teething or he could have a cold. He said the symptoms of both are pretty much the same. I think he is most likely teething because you can see the last two teeth under the gums and his gums are swollen and hurt to the touch. Has anyone had their baby have a hard time teething after the first couple of teeth weren't that bad. Is this an indication of how the rest of the teeth are going to be? Any good suggestions on how to help my son are much appreciated. We feel so bad for him and feel so helpless!! And we are in need of some sleep :-) Thanks

What can I do next?

I second the Hylands Teething Tablets! My son started teething at 4 months and had all his teeth by 14 months...we are now awaiting his 2 year molars! The tablets are cheap and fantastic!! Good luck!

My 3 month old daughter (my 3rd child) began teething over a month ago !! My other 2 children who are now 12 years and 9 years old didn't start getting teeth until months later. We just had 2 rough days with her where she cried & fussed alot no matter what we did. We use infants tylenol & baby orajel, but also found we had to just get through it...once I layed down with her head up on my arm & shoulder to sleep, she relaxed. It seems like a very tough time but it will pass...all you can do is give medicine & / or orajel within specified guidelines and hold him / soothe him as best you each can.

Hi M.,
i totally am in the same boat as you. my son is 7 months was born in july. he started cutting 1st tooth feb 17th and cranky as hell. he got 2nd one a few days later and crankier. normally sleeps preety good and has been up several times the past 2 weeks and he is miserable. he got a fever of 101.T this past sunday and was even more cranky than he normally is. i work in pediatrics and took him on tuesday night and he was developing an ear infection, he is now on amoxicillian but what he is doing is totally normal. just keep doing what your doing. i know it is really. frustrating right now but you will get thru it. i have been given my son tylenol and motrin and baby oragel. he also teeths on frozen bagels and washcloths. that is all you can do for them. you feel so bad for them being in pain and all. question for you. since teething has your baby been terrible in trying to feed him solids especially? mine has. its a battle trying to feed him solids he spits everything out and grabs tthe spoon and puts his fists near his mouth when i try to get it in. this is breakfast luch and dinner. he makes a hugh mess but oh well thats what they do right. well hope some of this helped. let me know how it all works out. hang in there. it will get better.

hylands Teething Tablets were my godsend with both of my children. They are homeopathic, and work WONDERS!! I still use them on them now, and they are 8 and 5. Heck, I use them myself when I have a toothache. you can get these right at walmart, or if you have a wild oats store near you they have them there as well.

I found that when my son was teething (he'll be 20 months next week!) and it was waking him (and us) at night, that if I gave him a dose of tylenol or motrin before he went down for the night, he usually slept much much better than if we didnt. Don't worry, this stage doesnt last that long and there will be plenty of other reasons for him to wake you in the middle of the night. ;) Also...frozen things like teething rings, cold things, for them to chew on help. And...you may or may not be able to find this...when both my kids were teething I went to babies r us...in the teething toys section they had a teether that when you bite down on it it vibrates. My daughter (who will be 5 this month...gasp) had a pooh bear one shaped like a honey pot...I dont think they make that one anymore...but my son had one shaped like a star. They feel kind of rubbery on the outside and when you squeeze it, it will vibrate. Both my kids LOVED that teether and it seemed to make them alot calmer and happier. Hope that helps! It does get better.

My daughter is 15 mths now and she's cutting her molars, not fun. Poor little things. Anyways, she had a tough time through all of her teeth. She had all the symptons of an ear infection except a fever too, Doc's office too. She also wouldn't eat for me, all she wanted was her bottle.Teethers, Safe Feeders with ice cube, and frozen fruit, Infant Tylentol, and Orajel. And lots of distraction and comforting. Just when you think you guys won't be able to take it anymore it will stop until the next teeth start up. Good luck. It's tough but just think you'll get through it okay.

Hi M.! My name is D. I am a mom of two girls 8 and 3. I also have 3 stepkids 19,16,+12. I am 27 years old and my oldest had a real hard time with teething I swear she did not sleep for 6 Months. It was awful. However some tricks I learned were definately give her some ambesol and tylenol I don't like to give my kids a lot of medicine but how her doctor described the pain shee was going through I felt it was nessasary. Plus if you can let him sleep in his carrier buckled of corse cause being upright helps reduce the pain also try frozen vegetables or even just cold cut them big enough so he won't choke but if he can just knaw on them it will help numb his gums. Raw potatoes are real good for teething too plus nutrious my daughter still eats a piece of raw potatoe every time I make them. Well I hope u try some of these ideas and you finally get some sleep. What I do know is I am still sleep deprived 8 years later but good luck

Hi M.,
I have 3 little ones (3 yrs.-5 mth.) and my youngest is teething right now. She is not taking it very well either. She is not sleeping and needs constant comforting. My oldest would get a fever and runny nose, my midchild she would sleep a lot when she was teething. So I know every chld is different but you just have to accomidate them. Give them a fever reducer if needed, that also my help with the pain, also dr.s are there 24 hours. My dr. laugh and say no question is a silly one. If your son has a runny nose or fever and you are concerned asking your dr. is the best thing you could do. I think the worst part is seeing you child in pain and knowing there is not much you can do.... everybody gets teeth. I hate teething hahaha
