I have big, scary, brown spiders creeping around my house all of a sudden! 3 in the house (living room) that I have found in the past week. Then, this past weekend we were sitting on the deck and after dard we noticed a lot of spiders making appearances around us and they were the same big brown scary ones that I found inside. This morning my purse was covered in a thick web!!!
What can I do? I have little kids so I am hesitant to use chemicals...

I have extreme arachnophobia, and those spiders come every year in August,September. When I go in my yard, I always make sure where I'm walking.I have ran through spider webs, with a spider almost hanging in my face, I thought I would have to die.
I would never use chemicals,I would just make peace with them.We have hundreds of spiders in the house, all year we can't really see.
I hate them, but I also learned to accept them.

Hi M. R.
We have an unused crawl space underneath our place and there are a lot of spiders and other ugly things down there. They used to come up into our house through vents, pipes etc. They still do, but only a few get through.

I went around the house and bug proofed it. I put screen on the vents and taped it all around really well. I put some tape around the edges on all window screens. I taped all around the pipes in the loundry room, under sinks etc. I taped around the crawl space opening. I use electrical tape, as it comes off easy and doesn't leave any sticky stuff when removed.

I still get a few here and there, but not as bad.
I hope this helps.

I will be wathing this one. I have also noticed these nasty looking things this year. We also have webs all over the outside of our house. I have not seen any inside and hope I don't. Dealing with house spiders and centipedes is more than enough.

We also have a ton of them outside- webs all over the flowers and bushes, and they appear in the grass between mowings. Luckily, we haven't had them inside (except for the unfinished basement, which is a lost cause to me) yet. About once every three months, we spray room borders with "Home Defense" by Ortho, I think. We have pets and a little boy, so we keep everyone away from the recently sprayed rooms until they're dry, about 10 min. I don't much like the chemicals either, but it's worked for us, and I really don't want to start getting creatures inside!

I've been extra vigilant in vacuuming, especially around windows. Get rid of any wood around your home as they are attracted to it. Hosing off any spider webs outside or hosing off your deck is good too. Make sure the outsides of your windows and doors are clean and clear of webs. This seems to help me - it's keeping them, at bay. Otherwise, next I'm going to try more drastic means.

And they are HUGE!
