my son is in that in between size - he is in a 5t or a xs depending on which department i am in. he's in a size 12 shoe. i can't figure out the dang socks!! the smallest size in the boys section (which just say Small) look huge, but the biggest in the toddler section i already know are too small because i bought some awhile back. but now even those are worn out and i am not going to be able to put it off much longer. i am NOT thrilled about going in and ripping open a pack. is that my only option? what are your kids' sock sizes, when wearing a 12 in toddler shoes? thanks mamas!

(maybe i've finally hit upon a question that won't get anyone running me through the ringer! lol!)

What can I do next?

If I could remember exactly what the package said i would tell you...but, i will try to describe the socks as best i can! I have had a hard time finding socks to fit also. They were in the boys section. They are Hanes and they are white socks with gray on the toes and heel and say Hanes in green under the toes. Of course I don't remember the size, sorry, but in boys i think it was the smallest size available. I like these darker gray at the toe and heel because they fit the foot well, not loose. I have twin boys that just turned 5. One wears a size 12 shoe and the other wears a size 11 shoe. I hope i helped at least a little, sorry for not having exact info.

My son wears a 12 and he wears a M in the Gold Toe brand from Kohls. Love these socks. They are a bit more expensive than say, Fruit of the Loom, but they last for a long time and don't fall off.

Some brands of socks look huge but really shrink after they go thru the washer and dryer.

I've also found that certain brands are tight in the wrong places for my boys. For example, foot is fine but the ankle constricts, fine in width but foot length too short. So once I found a brand that is comfortable for each boy, I'd continue using that brand and just get the next size up as they outgrew.

I think my son wears a size large in socks--I usually buy them at Wal Mart or Target and prefer to get him the Hanes socks, but we got Fruit of the Loom at Christmas. The shoe size ranges are on the package and that is what I always go by. Sometimes they are a little loose-looking, but that is much better than cutting off the circulation at his feet. :)

Oh, I meant boy sizes, not toddler.

We went through the exact same problem until I tried different brands. I found that the Cherokee brand at Target is like a 1/2 size between the Small and Medium of Fruit of the Loom and Hanes. Most bags are ziplock or easy-open so you can try them on in the store.

Good luck!!

The socks at Walmart have a sticky edge that folds over the end. It is very easy to pull the package open and then put the sock back in if it's not the right size.

We get the white socks with gray areas on the toes and heels. We can get the ones that have the taller top or the short sport ones. You'll just have to try them on and then remember what size you bought.

This has been a huge source of frustration for me as well. When I find one that fits, I get enough to last a year!

My son's feet at size 12 shoes were fitting the hanes socks for boys whose shoe sizes were something like 2. It makes no sense. But they fit, so I bought 16 pairs. Thank goodness for the ziplock packages.
