Help! Pen Exploded in Dryer

Thanks to my dear but absent-minded husband, this happens a lot in our house. I use alcohol on bits of paper towel or cotton pads.

Joann's sells an ink remover for clothing, Carbona brand, it's by the notions.
Have you tried rubbing alcohol, then wiping clean with a damp rag?
That really stinks!
Since it's new, you might call the store and get their suggestion, or see if you would be covered for a service.

Rubbing Alcohol.......that is the ingredient in the hairspray that works so well. Cheaper too. Good luck.

This with take a while... have plenty of paper towels (or some old dust rags) and alcohol. I had the same thing happen when my son left a pen in a pants pocket. The alcohol worked great. You don't have to rub really hard, just make sure the alcohol penetrates the ink. Hope this helps!

Go to the dollar store and buy 2 or 3 cans of aerosol hairspray, generously spray the entire inside of the dryer until is is running down the sides. Wipe down with old towels that you really don't care about. Do it again. Wash the old towels in a strong bleach load, don't let them do the last spin so they are soaked. Put in dryer and run to make sure they "finish the rub" then do a load of clothes you don't care about as a test run. You may have a light stain still but it shouldn't tranfer after that. The acetone in the hairspray breaks down the ink. Don't run the dryer without wiping out the hairspray as it as well as alcohol is a flammable substance and I'd rather you buy a new dryer than start a lovely house fire(I speak from a laundry room fire experience).

Sorry about the pen explosion in the Dryer that happened to me years ago and I used rubbing alcohol hope it work for you put it on a towel and whip away.

Try using a cheap airasol hsir spray. Spray it on and wipe while still wet. We used this on counter tops in the Hospital

We did the same thing about 2 years ago. Super Clean worked well on the dryer and the clothes (for the most part). It can be found in the automotive section of most big box stores. Be sure to use in a well-ventilated situation. Unfortunately we were unable to find a "greener" solution to this.

Old remedy from My Mother -in-Law..but it works! Cheap Hairspay.The cheaper the better. Soak the area and wipe away. It works well on most fabrics as well...but you might need to srcub it a little and then wash with laundry.
(as in the chair seat my son wrote all over with a pen when he was a kid. Velvet)
Make sure you wipe(rinse) it down afterward..as hairspray IS flamable...No fires allowed this close to Christmas if we can help it kiddo.!!

I've heard of Carbona - that other post mentioned. That's a good option. However, I swear by Mr. Clean Magic Sponges - even maybe I would buy the "heavy duty" variety - magic sponge for this job. My dog, recently, exploded a red permanent ink pen on my wall and hardwood floor. I tried to wash it off using spic and span and it did nothing - it immediately came off with one of the Mr. Clean sponges!

Wow! Half of your battle would have been to get the pen out of your clothes - sounds like you lucked out!!!!! Good luck!

The same thing happened to me about a year ago. I just used some powdered cleanser (like Comet) on a damp cloth (use little water so it stays abrasive) and a lot of elbow grease. The ink came off and I didn't see any damage to the dryer.

This totally happened to me! After trying a few different things...mainly scrubbing with alcohol & magic erasers, one suggestion I found online was to apply some alcohol to a damp rag and running the dryer on a warm setting. It sort of helped to "loosen" the remaining ink and helped it to rub off. Then there was sort of a faint "blueness" to the dryer barrel. So then I ran some plain rags/towels in as a test to make sure any additonal ink would not come off on clothing. This was about 1.5 years ago when this happened and now the color is all gone! But I implore my husband to check all his pocket before putting stuff in the laundry.

i just had this happen the other day!!! I used finger nail polish remover to get the large ink areas out - put some remover on a cotton ball and rub gently over the area. Use it in a corner first to make sure it doesn't remove the finish first. Because my dryer was extremely stained (there were 2 pens) I then used scrubber pads (Brillo) with warm water and scrubbed the entire inside of the dryer then rinsed everything. BTW, the easiest way to do this is to remove the door on the dryer so you can get into all the areas affected. Hope this helps, if I had time I'd come over to help you. J.

Just 2 weeks ago, I had a similar problem. My husband left a sharpie marker in his jeans and it exploded. I tried several things, the only one that worked is Acetone. Either pure Acetone or if you have nail polish remover. Becareful of the fumes!!

i have found that soft scrub bleach will get anything off it got permanent marker off my hard wood floors. good luck

Have had some luck with hairspray. Spray it around and it should wipe up.

I did have this happen, and unfortunately it just took some major elbow grease, and about 3 hours of scrubbing, to get it all out. I used a sponge and tried alcohol, but the wet sponge worked fine and the alcohol made me nervous, like it was rubbing something off. (???)

Hi K., I am now shopping with a company that makes all green products, They have a product called Sol-U-Mel that's fantastic! Its a 3 in one cleaner that work on everything. But its safe for humans and animals it will get your ink out of the dryer an tackle any stains or grime with out much work on your part! It gets nail polish out of rugs and marker off walls also. for more info, give me a shout! Take care, L. :)

Have you heard of Melaleuca? They have a super product called "Sol U Mel". This works wonders on ink, markers, crayon, etc. Go to www.SaferForYourHome.com to look up the many uses of Sol-U-Mel.

I dont know if anyone else mentioned this but a magic dry easer!! I use this on everything. With having 2 boys you would think I would check pockets before I do laundry. It wont completly take it off, there will be a slight color left but at least it wont be so bright and it wont transfer to more clothes. Good luck.
