I am looking for suggestions for cleaning the couch cushions. It happened at 2am and I wasn't thinking straight and let it sit until the morning...now it smells.

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the advise. Since it was dry by morning we just dumped a bottle of fabreeze and left in in the sun. Thank goodness it's sunny. No lingering smell.

Bio-Kleen Bac-Out! Works fabulous and is a "green" product with a very pleasant lime scent. It's gotten out cat pee that we didn't know about for months. :)

I've never had one of my little ones pee on our couch but I've had a few BAD cats, anyways I dont know what kind of cushions you have on your couch but with mine we were able to remove the cover and were fortunate enough to have a solid foam piece inside. I had to have the cover dry-cleaned, than I soaked the in side foam piece with White Vinager and Water, for like a few hours than rinsed and smashed as much water as possible out before leaving it to air dry. No fun I know but in this lovely weather it probably wouldnt take that long.
dunno if it would help just thought I'd throw that out there.

White vinegar water. If the couch is not completely dry, soak up as much urine as possible using a highly absorbent towel/paper with a heavy weight on it. Once the area is dry or urine removed saturated the spot with white vinegar water. A half cup to a quart of water. Let it set for a few moments, then soak it up with the toweling. The vinegar smell will disipate, but it neutralizes the urine smell. This is a trick I learned when I worked in a nursing home, scrubbing floors and mattresses. White vinegar has multiple uses in cleaning and laundry as far as a green alternative. Have the child who did the deed help you clean the couch. When they see how much work it is maybe they'll think twice before this accident happens again. If it was your 4m old, well, stuff happens, get a flannel covered rubber sheet to put on the couch before you change diapers, just to prevent these kind of accidents.

I've recommended this before - there are wonderful enzymatic de-odorizers at pet stores ( I know our children are not ''pets'' ---but the true issue is so similar- please don't be offended)

6, 3, and new --- no, honey- of course you weren't tracking at 2am -- Blessings,

Bac Out is an amazing product, environmentally friendly, safe around children and pets and leaves only caarbon and oxygen behind. It contains 5 strains of good bacteria that literally eat the bad bacteria killing off the odors. Works great for kid and pet stains and accidents especially getting deep inside the cushions or floor padding.

I use "Kids and Pets" It is the best for smells and stains. You can get it in the cleaning aisle in Fred Meyer, Target, and I have also seen it in Safeway.

Hi K.-

I've been through this! My daughter had an accident on our couch that just happened to be her morning pee. There was so much that, when I lifted the cushion off to assess the situation, pee was actually dripping from the bottom of it because it had soaked all the way through! Anyway, we ended up just taking the offending cushion in to be professionally cleaned and it's as good as new. It wasn't that expensive, too, and I feel like the cleaners saved me A LOT of trouble...and did a better job then I could have done. I'd highly recommend taking your cushions in to be cleaned...especially since the pee has sat for a period of time.
