Help! Melted Plastic on Glass Cooktop!

I'd consider calling the manufacturer and asking for advice.

I don't have a glass cooktop but I would think ice and a fingernail would do it. Perhaps one of those pampered chef scraper thingys

Okay please for the love of god don't use a razor blade. First because people look better with all their finger intact but also because the surface has a coating on it that you will ruin. Look at the links that B supplied.

Does your cook top come with a scrapper?

Don't scrape! You could ruin the stovetop!

Go online to the manufacturer's website and see what you can find there. Or get a phone number to talk to them. Don't just wing this one...

i melted plastic on the outside of my crockpot years ago (long, sad story) and it stunk for months afterwards, every time i used it.
can you reheat it on low and warm it just enough to make it workable? then i'd just go after it patiently with rubber spatula or wooden spoon, something you can toss afterwards.
i'd worry about using anything metal or sharp, you'll ruin your cooktop surface.
this is probably worth a call to the manufacturer.

I would warm it back (the lowest setting) up and use a razor to remove whats left. I would also put a bit of oil on the blade and stove so the plastic wont stick to that either. Just be sure to have good ventilation.

Yikes! My flat cooktop is white and I love it. I also knew when I purchased it that it would take some work to keep it perfect.

I use Cerama Bryte and the yellow scrubbies by Cerama Bryte on my cooktop. Nothing else!!

You might call the manufacturer for help on this one. I would!

I clean it thoroughly each time I use it and I will not use a burner until it's perfect.

I know they sell scrapers for things like what happened to you. I still would not use any type of scraper. If it gets scratched it's ruined.

When I had house cleaners, they were told to leave it alone and when I have guests I'm not shy about telling them that I clean the cooktop.

They are great cooktops and very efficient but the do require extra care. Good luck and keep us posted!

These stovetops are famous for this sort of thing. I truly am not sure you'll get it off except to keep cooking it until it's all charcoal and burned off.

A person can't do so many things on them. I washed one one time when I was a home health aid and it ruined it. My company had to buy the lady a new stove. You can bet she didn't get another smooth top range. She learned the hard way they are pretty useless.

I would contact the manufacturer so that if it ruins the stove top at least you can prove you did it their way and it didn't work. Maybe they'll fix it for you if you do it and it ruins the cooktop.

Try scraping off the residue with a razor blade.
