Help! Kids Keep Getting Strep

I have 3 chidlren and I am a SAHM. My children are 4,5 and 7 years old and have had strep six times since Aug. of 2007. I am not sure what to do. They have tried several diff. antibiotics but it keeps coming back. My neighbor is a RN and she suggested taking them to see a Infection and Disease doc. Has anyone ever done that and if so did it help?

They are always tired and have dark circles under their eyes. Their doc. does not seem to be as concerned as I would like. She told me to bring them back 2 days after they stop the antibiotic to see if they still test positive. What should I do to help them?

What can I do next?

You might want to consider getting them in to see an ENT (ear nose and throat) specialist. It may be that they dont have strep. It could be tonsilitis or some thing else.

Are you changing there toothbrushes each time they get strep? Any medications that they take with a dropper etc.? I know when my daughter got strep (3 or 4 times) They told me to change her toothbrush and anything that she took with a dropper (Poly-vi-sol w/iron etc.)

Get on the web and search out Dr. Ted Broer. He is a nutritionist . He has had wonderful sucess for many people in the 30 years of his practice.
Another...Dr. Cherry get on the web. Dr. Cherry is out of California area.
Get yourself and your kids off sugsr as much as possible...sugar breeds infections.
Try adding a little bleach to your dish water, if you do not have a dish washer. Use bleach/water or bleach wipes on all surfaces...doorknobs,telephone,remote/PStation controlers..etc.

Something I didn't realize until the past year is that all the chemicals we keep in our homes can cause us to have immune problems. I purchase all my products at an online store that sells safer, healthier items and I also recommend their vitamins. The vitamins have a special coating that promotes faster and better absorption. If you're interested you can contact me off-boards at ____@____.com this helps a little.

Hi C.,

I've never been a vitamin taker but ... I have to say that I'm amazed at how healthy and energized I feel and my children are since we decided to become more preventative with our health. We lost our health insurance 2 years ago and my husband and I decided to do something new in order to maintain a healthy home. We researched vitamins and companies to find the one that seemed like it used the best ingredients and had scientific proof of its organic compounds.

I had been using Shaklee skin products and their non-toxic cleaners, but hadn't really invested in their vitamins. Shaklee's been around for more than 50 years and is extremely safe, organic, and scientifically researched. My children have each had a brief cold this year compared to last year - I think they were both sick most of September thru April! It's made a world of difference this year by putting them on a regular vitamin routine.

My husband and I take the multi-vitamin, vitamin c, b complex, and optiflora. The kids take the kids chewable mulit vitamin, chewable c, and the optiflora. When they complain of a scratchy throat, I give them the Defend and Resist and it usually goes away.

Whatever alternative you go with - I highly recommend trying vitamins. My kids also love the Shaklee chocolate meal shake. They can be picky eaters and that can contribute to their lack of good health - I give them a shake and I know they've gotten the nutrients they need to get through the day.

Anyhoo, it's really been a lifesaver for us and meant fewer trips to the doctor!! This January I decided to become a Shaklee distributor. You can check out the website and be sure to ask me anything about the products. There's a 100% money back guarantee if they don't help you.

Talk to your Dr. about you kids having epsteen bar virus

My younger child didn't have a problem with strep specifically, but he was CONSTANTLY ill from month #1 until about the middle of his second year. It was always one thing after another, and he still gets sicks quite a bit. I was always thinking, "Is it the house? Is it some kind of strange allergy? Is it a syndrome of disease?"

I did finally take him to an immunologist at Duke and found it extremely helpful. There are lots of technical / medical terms for Riley's problem, but essentially it turns out my child has almost none of the antibodies that protect against lung infection. Immunologists can test for all kinds of immunoglobulins and then get a statistical report back, so you can see these things in black and white. The numbers won't keep Riley from getting sick all the time, but they sure explained what was going on. A good immunologist might cost you more than your regular co-pay, but if strep keeps rearing it's ugly head, I bet an immunologist could help you figure out what's going on and why.

C., I would consult an ENT, because when I was a child I kept strep all the time. My mother had my tonsils taken out because alot of my problem was that the tonsils were holding infection and none of the antibiotics were working. I just took one right after another. I didn't get strep anymore till I was a teenager and haven't had any since and I am now 24. Well, I wish you luck.
