Help Its Been 17 Months and I Cant Get the Baby Weight Off!!!

I had my daughter in October 2005 and have not lost any of the weight. I nursed her until she was 15 months, so I really couldn't diet much then. I have been watching what I eat and trying to excersise more, but the weight is still there. Help.. If anyone has any tips I would be gr. I weight more now then I have ever before, and would like to loose between 20-40 lbs. I am going to start getting really focused on loosing the weight and would like to loose it within the next 6 months. Please let me know if you have any success stories or suggestions. I am very motivated and am ready to shed the pounds. Thanks!

HI,
My name is R..Not going to waste to much of your time. This is what works, weigh yourself and divide that in half what ever that equals drink that many oz. of water a day. Then try to have at least three eight oz. servings of dairy a day.Like yogurt, cheese,or milk. This will get you off to a great start and you will start losing weight quickly.Thats all good luck!!!!

Hey C.!

Don't be hard on yourself about the weight, you chose to breastfeed and not starve the weight off. You loved your little one a lot and made a huge vanity sacrifice for her. KUDOS to you for that! You just stopped breastfeeding two months ago so I'm not surprised that your feeling blue and overwhelmed.........thought it would dry up with the milk didn't ya.........yeah so did I! Good news, some if it will just come off over the next six months (it's amazing how long it takes to recover fully from breastfeeding) My son weaned himself at 10months and it took until he was around 18months before I didn't look like a bloated blimp..weird but true. Then of course the beautiful full boobs are gone too and you feel totally bummed. No worries it all works out. I had about 30lbs to lose too. I still haven't met my goal but just this morning my 13yr old (and painfully honest) daughter said WOW mommy you look like mommy again not like pregnant mommy. SO it does happen, it has taken me a year but to be honest I haven't given up everything I could have to help lose the weight fast. Here are a couple of facts that have helped me make smart choices and stay on track.
1. For every pound you want to lose in a week you must take in 3500 calories LESS than you burn (that is intimidating)
2. I am American and no longer recognize what a portion size really looks like.
3. No food should be off limits but how often I have it does matter.

What has helped me most has to be two things
1. The Wiggles........yes childrens DVD's (especially the concert video Wiggly Dancing in the USA , I sing and do dance "aerobics" with my son about an hour a day and those old guys can really keep the cardio up...me and the little guy are both happy and he doesn't even realize Mommy is exercising with him...for him we are just playing and having fun.
2. www.runnersworld.com I love runners world, they have non judgmental, fact based articles on weight loss and nutrition and how to improve your overall life. When I need motivation, I read about how many calories I'll burn if I just put the kid in the stroller and jog to the park and back. Or how our nutritional labels on boxed foods aren't diet friendly like in Europe. I consider myself an intelligent well informed person and I am constantly learning about health from this site.

I hope some of this helps you and remember to love yourself. You have weight on your body right now because you loved someone else more than yourself. That is a beautiful thing. Good luck and know you have to find what works in your life.

I have been using sparkpeople.com for the last 10 weeks and have lost 20 pounds. It is realistic and life-changing. And best of all, it is FREE!

I personally am not a diet person. The best thing to do is nt keep junk in the house, eat 5-6 small meals a day (to keep metabolism going and not overeating) and change the way you do everyday tasks. Example, when you go shopping park towards the back of the parking lot, take kids to park and stay moving, take the stairs instead of elevator. This has worked for me to lose baby weight after both children and keep it off. And above everything else get outside and play, play play. You wont believe how much exercise you can get by just playing with the kids in the yard.

A great website that helps keep track of EVERYTHING is http://www.fitday.com/ (it is easy and free). It will tell you if you are meeting your nutritional goals daily. It also has lots of charts and graphs (which I really love). Be prepared b/c it is kin of addicting! Good luck!!

I would recommend that you first visit your family doctor to rule out any thyroid problems. 30% of women develop thyroid problems after pregnancy. I would that they run a full panel of blood work to see what if anything is going on.

Good Luck

HI C.,
For me what helped the most was two things. When I stopped focusing on "THE WEIGHT" and started seeing myself thin again in my mind, I started doing things that actually got me the results. When you have a picture in your mind, that is what you begin to manifest. I know it sounds strange, but have found it to be true with many things.
The other thing that I started doing and enjoy a lot is resistance work outs. It really boosts up your metabolism. Being a mom it's hard to fit everything in and with my workout, I only do 3 15 minute sessions a week and sqeeze in cardio or aerobic when I can. Even if it means running all thru the house with the dog & kids. A book that may inspire you is Lean,Long And Strong. The author is so inspiring & uplifting & really knows her stuff!!!
You'll get to where you want to be so the best thing is not to stress or be tough on yourself....just be positive!!!
