Help ! I Need an Exterminator for Big Black Ants

Well the ants are from a tree nearby and unless you get rid of the tree you can't get rid of the ants and the ants WILL start living between the walls of your home, so if you just noticed them you might still have a chance ... we have used Rose in the past but it's only a preventative measure, to slow them down, came every month, gets expensive if they do the inside and outside of your home...but it never got rid of the problem, they were in our walls also. Hello L., These are carperter ants, they eat wood like termites. Did you have the house inspected before buying it? If so, you should have it assesed as to how much damage there is to the house due to the ants, the inspecter should be held accountable for not informing you of this infestation. This is a major problem. As far as the exterminator goes, I don't have any suggestions. These ants do bite so watch out for the kids. Good luck.

we had the same problem and used Environmental Pest control, Dan is great. I don;t have the number right now but you can look it up easily. Warning - they do have to come back at the same time every year.

We use Orkin for just regular bugs (spiders ,etc) and we have seen a big difference in the amount we see in the house now. I'm a bug-phobic!! They spray on the outside and inside of the house. I didn't have the big black ants, but our neighbor did and she used Orkin also and they got rid of them

Hi L. I dont have an exterminator to recommend but when you call someone make sure they check outside. I too had this problem and it was coming from a tree that was in my yard.

We have been using Liberty Services of America for about three years now. I hate spiders! and that is putting it mildly. Anyways we just moved from the city futher out to more of a country setting so the spiders out here are pretty big. We call Liberty in April and they come out and spray around all the house and garage. They gaurentee their work for the whole season. They are amazing. I see not one spider or any other creepy crawly. I love these guys. If after they spray you still see signs of the pest they will come back out and spray again free of charge. I would totally recommend them. I'm not sure what they would charge for ants, but I feel it is worth peice of mind. Their number is ###-###-####. They are out of Fraser (I think). Good luck.

Hi I had this problem a few years ago with the big black carpenter ants for 3 yrs straight. I tried everything there was out there i could find. I finally found this stuff called Terro it came in a liquid form that ya put on pieces of like poster board that came with it i put it out where animals or kids couldn't get to it but where i seen the ants the most. They ate this stuff up like ya wouldn't beleive and within 3 days they were gone. And it stayed that way. So ya might wanna try Terro ya can get it at Aco or Meijers that i know of. Good luck

Call Orchid or go to ace and get some ant elimanator and do it your self.

My brother in law has his own company, Dan K. with environmental pest control. All the sprays are kid/pet safe and not harmful to the environment. He sprays our houe once a year and we never see ants, bugs even spiders! His prices are great too :)

We get ants every spring and the ant traps that you buy at Lowes or Home Depot (or just about anywhere) really do work and quickly. I put them around the entryways to the house (doors, windows, and dryer vent) I get the ones with the spike to stay secure in the ground and with in a week there are NO ants. I really did not want to do the chemical spray thing because I have a toddler and it just would not work so I thought I would try this and it did. My husband thought I was nuts until he say that it worked too and now he uses them around the garden in the summer.

I have always had Terminix. We used them when the ear wigs invaded Michigan back in 1992. They did a good job. It sounds like you have carpenter ants. Call immediatly! They are eating your house.

The only way to get rid of carpenter ants is to find the rotted wood that they are nesting in, and get rtid of it. Youcould also try to put sugar and baking soda, 50-50, in a bowl, and leave it out. Theytake it back with them to the nest, and it kils them.

I had the same problem in my own home several years ago. I called "Maplelane Pest Control" from the Greater Detroit area, and I have not seen an ant in the house in over 5 years. They sprayed in the home around the baseboards and outside around the perimeter of the house. I would call them again if I need, but haven't had the need. If I recall, they were fairly reasonable too. Good luck and don't wait to do something. Most likely those are carpenter ants you are seeing! Best Wishes, T..

Black ants can also enter your home through a tree branch that may be resting on your roof or against an outside wall so you may want to look for that as well.

We live in Lansing and have used Jack with Pioneer Pest Control ###-###-####). They service the Tri-County area. We had carpenter ants, and Jack was fantastic with dealing with the problem. He sprayed inside and outside the house. He's really nice and always arrived on time.

we had big ants all over the outside of the house, and my husband buys something at lowes for the yard to keep ants and other insects away from the house and out of the yard, it works. sorry i can't be of more help.

I'd ask at your neighborhood hardware store. They usually have good referrals, especially if they're independently owned.
