Help! I Have a Stye on My Eyelid!

Hello moms! Monday morning I woke up with a swollen eyelid. Doctor says it's a stye, and to put a warm wash cloth on it frequently, which I am doing. I was told that it can take a while for the stye to go away. Do you know if there is anything else I can do to speed up the process? Thanks!

What can I do next?

My pharmacist recommended boric acid ointment. It has been ages since I've had a stye, so I don't know if you can get it OTC or if it needs a scrip.

Call your pharmacist. They are usually pretty on top of what's safe and effective, either over-the-counter or even home remedies. Don't fool around with your eyes without expert advice, though.

I could have sworn there was drops or something at the pharmacy. Go with Fuzzy, sounds about right.

Warm (almost hot) facecloths - and repeat. So keep it on till it gets cool, then repeat. And you can gently massage the sty. It might be filled with pus (believe it's an infection of an eyelid duct/gland whatever those are called) so just be careful. I was told not to wear my contacts an I also (just as a precaution) did not use eye makeup until it went away. Good luck :)

I was always told a warm compress (which is what your doctor said). I have known people to use a warm tea bag (regular tea) or a warm salt water compress.

Either way it will take a few days to go away.

WArm compresses helped...I had heard a rumor that if you rub a nickel on it it goes away but it sounded too...tooo...too something and I never tried it....

Haven't had one since I left that teller job(lol) -- don't know if there was a connection

Best stye remedy EVER! Often, a sty is an infected eyelash. Pluck the one closes to the stye (you'll know which one) and it will go away very quickly.

I used to get these in my 20s all the time. Works so quickly.

The tea bag works in a day . Make a cup of regular tea not green or herbal . Squeeze out the tea bag then apply to your eye . Hold it with a paper towel so you don't stain your fingers . Make sure it's not scalding when you apply . Hold on closed eye for a minute or so . Put tea bag back in cup to get it hot again . Repeat a few times . Try this a few times throughout the day . Should be gone by the morning .
A friend was in a wedding . The sister of the bride had a style the night before the wedding . I told her about this . She tried it and it was gone by morning ! It really works 😊

While I was growing up, my mother rubbed the stye with her gold wedding ring. It is an old wives remedy. She also did the warm cloth poltices. The cloth was as warm/hot as I was comfortable with. As an adult, I still do this. I don't know if it works because I have no way to compare it.

It seems reasonable that the gold ring would help by breaking up the stuff making the stye so your body can more quickly absorb it. Rub with the edge of the ring.

My mother also had me soak my eye in a solution of boric acid. I think she bought the crystals/powder at the pharmacy and mixed them into warm water. I think they were OTC.

Stye is kinda like another word for pimple... I treat it as such.. if yotu apply really warm water ever 1/2, that does help it along to eventually ooze....
also, below someone mentioned the Walgreen's stye cream. also helpful...
I used to get a lot of them.. what helped me the most is keep the area CLEAN... no makeup or cream near it and again, the hot presses with a clean washcloth... leave them awhile to help soften the area... again, treat it like a zit.. once soft enough, and this sounds gross.. but you can gently force out the junk that is inside of it..

good luck

If it's a mellow stye, it will go away pretty quickly. If it turns into a chalazion (hard ball-like cyst) don't waste your time with the hot cloths because it is not soft or floating free in there anymore and can't be squeezed out or dissolved into lid. You have to have it cut/scraped out by a doctor. I've had two. Both times I tried weeks of hot cloths first that had no effect. They slice it out from the inside of lid. Good luck! A stye will usually go away fine though naturally in a few days/week.
