Help for 1 Year Old with Diarrhea

Ok, so my 1 year old daughter has been having EXPLOSIVE diarrhea since Christmas Eve, it's everywhere. Any suggestions would help, have already called dr. and they just said to give her pedialyte to keep her hydrated. Any food suggestions, diaper rash treatments, anything to make her comfortable. THANKS ladies.

Thanks to everyone for your help, I was able to get the Florastor for kids, and she's eating well, not wanting the bottle so much though, hopefully she will be better in a day or two.

there's another product like that but i forget the name. the pharmacist can show you where it is. sorry for you. I skipped out on a christmas trip because there was a house with 9 people in the house with the same thing. its supposed to be short lived. I think bannanas and rice can help too. (or rice cereal)

I agree with other posters--BRAT diet, try to get fluids in her but juice will make it worse. When my daughter was 18 mths she ended up in the hospital for 2 days b/c of dehydration...I always heard the warnings to watch out for signs of dehydration, but I always wondered, "how will I know?"

Don't worry- you'll know.

Go to the pharmacy and ask for a product called florastore. It's a natural product to restore the good bacteria in her gut that will help her recover from the diarrhea much more quickly. If they have the pediatric kind, you just dissolve it in liquid. The adult kind is the same dose, in a capsule that you can open up and dissolve. It's a little cheaper, just doesn't have the fruity flavoring of the kid's version. It's not cheap, but has worked like a charm for us.

Bananas or apple sauce or cheese can help bind her up and stop the diarrhea and still keep w pedilight and corn starch will help w diaper rash

bananas and applesauce adn apple juice

As long as he is one year you can give him HONEY...works like a charm!

No fun. My son is fighting something that started Christmas Eve too. I'm up now in the middle of the night because he is not sleeping.

The Florastore helped him in the past but it's expensive and I found that most of the pharmacies I called had to special order it. It's about $10 for a 5 day supply. We've been giving my son a baby pro-biotic from Whole Foods instead. I don't have the name on me right now but there are a few to choose from and Whole Foods is helpful. This one is unflavored and we just put it in his milk once a day. So far it's helped the diarrhea and the diaper rash.

It seems to be a vicious cycle for him. First the diarrhea then the terrible diaper rash. When it starts to look bad I stop using wipes and switch to just water and a paper towel or washcloth. And I slather him with Desatin, the origional formula because is had the most zinc oxide. Our doc recomended Butt Paste but that didn't seem to help much. I hope you guys feel better soon!

I'de stay off the gassy veggies for a couple of days. Grilled cheese, mac n cheese, etc. No gassy soups. Oatmeal is good, crackers/cheese. Her stool should return to normal in a day or so. Keep her hydrated with the pedialite and no ice cold drinks...room temperature only.

When Connor had diarrhea our doctor recommended the BRAT diet. Bannanas, Rice, Apples (sauce or juice) and Toast. We mainly gave him bananas and applesauce adn apple juice. It seemed to help. Also, the doctor recommended pedialyte for hydration. She also sent us home with some G2 (the low calorie gatorade) which she said works just as well.
