HELP! Feeling Sad from Saggy Belly

I'm 42, 3 young kids (3rd is 3yo) and a life-long health nut. I have done every variation to healthy diet strategies and exercise trends on the planet for the past 20+years. It's never been easy for me to stay thin, but I've always done it come hell or high water. This past year, I've had 20 pounds I just could not shake due to limited work-out time, driving lifestyle, stress, age etc. I found the book Fit For Life in my basement. It came out in the 80's but I never read it, so I read it and have been doing the plan. AMAZINGLY I have shed 15 pounds in a little over 3 weeks easily just by eating healthy, simple natural things in certain combos and time frames. No calorie counting. Not only is it the fastest weight loss I've EVER had, I have massive energy and feel great. My clothes are loose, work-outs are easier- I've been feeling so happy.

So that's the good news.

The bad news, is that for the first time ever, with rapid weight loss (which I didn't know was going to be so rapid), I've just noticed in the past couple of days that my belly, which usually just has faint white stretch marks but is smooth (although pudgier than I'd like) is now saggy and lumpy and wrinkly :( Sagging skin that wasn't saggy when it was plump. :(

So. Who has had this issue? Please tell me there is a solution even if it's "gain the weight back". Is that the only way? Or can my body adjust and firm up at this age with more exercise? Or will that make it worse if I lose a couple more pounds? (I was hoping to lose 5 more to be pre-pregnancy weight) It only settles into "wrinkles" along the stretch marks when I bend over, it looks OK when I'm standing up straight.

What can I do? Anything. I've been seeing some scary websites saying there is no hope :( Be nice ladies, I'm going through a lot right now, divorce, etc.

Yes!!!

I've lost and gained 100+ pounds on a couple occasions (pregnancy kills me). Some skin is just meshugganah. BUT some will 'go back'.

BIG HINT:

- Wear a sports bra 24/7 (yes. Including while sleeping) to kep keep the girls 'up')

&

- Wear Spanx (or similar) 24/7 to help support the belly 'smile' (:P), so it can start healing / shrinking back in... Instead of hanging and sagging.

This is a plastic surgeon 'trick' (also anorexia trick), to help with skin healing/repair, that really does help a Great deal. I wear these thing a for as long as Im losing, and then 3-6mo afterward.

If the loose skin is upper arms, ace bandages.

_______

When I went in for my abdominoplasty consult, on of the things they wanted me to do was 'compression wrapping' for 6 months + my normal exercise. My 3" of belly flap reduced to 1" of belly flap. AFTER 9 YEARS of 3" of belly flap. Thwibbt. Wish Id known about this from day 1.

This is why tummy tucks are so popular.
You can firm the abdominal/core muscles with exercise, but not the skin itself.
I considered a tummy tuck at one point, but I decided to just focus on and show off the parts of my figure that look good, which is mainly my legs, back and arms.
I have two super cute one piece suits that hide my tummy well, and I wear Victoria Secret high cut brief panties which are very flattering in that they smooth out that little lower tummy "pouch" while making my legs look longer.
Sorry, I think we all wish there was a magic cure for this but it is what it is :-(

Try eating lettuce with your weight loss. I have had this happen and over a period of three months the skin begin to shrink back. Right now it is the skin that is loss from the weight that you lost. About six years ago I lost weight unbeknown that I looked like someone that had a gastro surgery. It took about four months before the skin like a chicken neck stopped slidding up and down and firmed up (I was 58 at the time).

So don't beat yourself up. If all else fails there is always surgery.

The other S.

PS Congrats on the weight loss.

I would like to know why eleven year old daughters feel like it is okay to poke your stomach while you are trying on Christmas outfits and say you are getting flabby mom? Wanted to throw up my hands and say eff it all, nothing will look good now. :(

Oh, 44 here so I feel ya.

The only thing that worked for me was working out three hours every weekday. Ahh but only a memory, now I guess I will have to live with flabby and shaper devices when I want to relax a bit.

I can tell you that I, well and Genna, are the only ones that notice. I say this because maybe you will feel a bit better about it knowing no one notices?

No amount of working out will firm skin. It can firm up some with time, but this could take a few months to a year. Give it time and see what happens.

Sorry about the divorce A., I didn't know.

Also sorry to say that no, there is nothing you can do, short of surgery. If you lose more weight, the saggy skin will sag even more. It has been stretched out, and it will not shrink back.

But if you can afford it and have the time to recuperate, a tummy tuck will work wonders. If you're getting a divorce, this might be a good time to do something for you.
