Help Creating a Model of the Solar System

I taught sixth grade before my daughter (now 6 months) was born, and remember this project well. One that worked well was in a good-sized cardboard box. She had a coathanger coming up from the bottom sticking into the Sun (a styrofoam ball painted yellow), and then had wires coming out for each planet. I'm not sure that they really moved in orbit, though. Ones that could hang (like from a coat hanger) moved better--do they want your child to make a mobile? You can get foam balls at Dollar Tree, temper paint is better then latex spray paint. I'm drawing a blank on making it move, unless to can come up with something like a modile. I could come up with something after considerable trial and error. Good luck.

Hi there. Like one of the other Moms said go to the Dollar tree or some please that have foam balls then get the paint and make the plants but to make it move do you have the modile that you used with your sons baby bed. If so you can take that and make it move. Use that and some old wire coat hangers and some fishing line. But most of all you need to let your son help you in what ever way that you decide to make it. I hope that will help you in some ways.

Try Hobby Lobby they usually have model kits you can use. I thought I saw another hobby store in Hixon also but I am not sure where that one is. super Walmart might have some too.

Go to Michael's in Bellevue they have the entire thing in a kit. I just saw it last week and if you snag an ad from the Sunday paper there is a 50% off coupon in there. Good Luck!

Get different size styrofoam balls from a Michael's. You can use craft wire or even clothes hanger wire to connect them.
