HI T.,

MY friend's daughter has the same problem with Oatmeal! I just spoke with her today.
Sounds like your poor little one is allergic to oatmeal.
She is going to call her doctor on Wednesday. I will let you know what she finds out.

I am allergic to Soy, Milk and diary, Tomato products and pineapples & green tea and a few other things. All of these allergies I have just gotten in the past few months.

With allergies, I am just learning what all I am allergic too!
Soy is in everything! Needless to say it is an adjustment. But Thank you to our wonderful God that there are still lots of other foods we can eat!

I would say just stick with the Rice cereal for now! Maybe you can try some other varities, a little at a time!

I hope I have helped in some way!
I will keep you in my prayers!

You can email me if you'd like!

PEace of Christ,

MErry Christmas!

According to the AAP American Academy of Pediatrics. Introducing solids before 6 months is harmful to the babies digestive system.
So....Please Don't walk - Run!!! to another Doctor! Report your doctor to the state board - and any other one that gives such horrible advice. Doctors have no business practicing if they give such unsound medical advice. You can tell the doctors that practice ethically - They are the ones that do not give a new mother a starter kit of formula - encourage breastfeeding if possible for the mother and they definitely do not have formula or processed (Gerber and other pre-packaged freebies) and non-whole food advertisements around thier office.

So sorry to hear about your baby's and yours distress.
With all her allergies you may want to attempt breastfeeding - even if you tried before - it may work now, especially since you have a big motivating factor- Your babies immediate health is at stake. She is only 3 months and unless you adopted her or have a medical reason you can not breastfeed- you should be able to relactate with very little effort. Your breatmilk is made up of all the things you ate when she was growing inside you and you are now probably keeping the same diet as you did then, so even today your breastmilk is still made especially for your baby! - There is a reason her system is rejecting the artificial formula and that she has reflux and milk and soy allergies!
Blessings for a better New Year and may your daughter feel better soon.

I dont know anything about reflux or 'medical' food. But, I am wondering why you are giving your daughter oatmeal when she is only 3 months old. And why was she getting rice cereal when she was only a week old????????? Did I read that right? My daughter is 4 months old now and I will NOT give anything but breastmilk until she is 6 months old. I've never heard of giving such a small baby more than just breastmilk or formula. I think her problem may be just that she isnt ready for solids. I would take her off everything but formula and see how she is. And please do not put cereal in a bottle. It serves no purpose.
Good Luck!

by spasms do you mean crying fits like she's hungry a 1/2 hour later.my kids never had alleries to milk or soy products. so im not sure what it is. my sisters kids were allergic to milk up to a year old and after that they were fine. i'm pretty sure it will get better though they usually outgrow some stuff after a year old. sorry that i couldn't be of more help

She probably has an allergy to the oatmeal. Being she is sooo young, I would not change from the rice that you are giving her. I have heard lots of doctors recommending putting rice in the bottle for reflux. It is certainly not unheard of. But I would defintely hold off on introducing any other cereals into her diet just yet. Rice is by far the most mild w/the least amount of allergy reaction. Just check w/your doctor and let them know about the reaction.

BABIES SHOULD NOT GET ANY SOLIDS UNTIL THEY ARE AT LEAST 4 MONTHS OLD - MINE DIDN'T GET SOLIDS UNTIL SHE WAS 6 MONTHS! REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU HAVE DONE IN THE PAST, RESTRICT HER TO FORMULA ONLY. YOU CAN DO DAMAGE TO HER DIGESTIVE ORGANS BY INTRODUCING SOLID FOODS BEFORE THEY ARE READY TO HANDLE THEM. HASN'T THE DOCTOR TOLD YOU THIS?!?!?

Sounds like you should take her to the doctor to get tested for allergies.

the cereal does serve a purpose according to doctors--my son was also on rice cereal since 2 weeks old (added to his bottle to thicken the soy formula so it settles in their tummies and they dont spit up). i would hold off on the oatmeal for about another month or so, maybe even longer. How much rice cereal do u put in her bottle?

My oldest son was only allegric to oatmeal baby cereal however now he can eat the regular kind.My baby however is allergric to milk.his stomach bleeds I have just started him on solids he is almost 6mths old and I keep running him to the dr cause every few weeks I find blood or think there is blood in his stools most the time I'm right.I was there today and I seen a different dr who ordered blood work I hope he can tell me in 2weeks when it comes back what is going on.If not I have to be see another dr.My advice if you think something is wrong take her to the dr they may have to test her.I tried Rice with my son because a friend told me to cause of spitting up.it didn't help him he is on Acid refux meds.HAve her tested my son does the same thing when his stomach bleeds also he is cranky hours before blood is found in his stool. Most the time you can't see blood in the stool the dr must test it.God luck and I will keep you in my prayers.

My mother gave me cereal straight up not in a bottle at two months because I wasn't gaining weight. And at the time she was exclusivly breastfeeding me. Guess what? I turned out fine. Since she's ok with the rice cereal you could probably continue that. However, considering she has other allergies and this occurs within a half hour of eating the oatmeal this sounds like another allergy. Stop giving it to her for now, if she continues to have this problem without the oatmeal, you know it's not the cause and can look for something else. If her pediatrician can't find the cause, get a second opinion. It won't hurt.

Well I am a mother of 5 and have given all my children (a pinch) of cereal in their bottles from a young age. However, if she already has problems where she is on medical food..why would you give here anything else.
I say stop everything cold turkey and continue with the dr.s plan because obviously the oatmeal is not working for her at all.
