Heel Pain in 11 Year Old
I am wondering if maybe my son has Severs disease. He has been complaining of his heel hurting on the bottom for about 2 or 2.5 weeks now. He says it has gotten better but still annoying. Severs disease seems to be common in his age group but it doesnt seem like there is much doctors do for it. Any one else have this issue and was it Severs or what was it??
Thanks!!!! :)

Could simply be plantar fasciitis, as a few other folks have mentioned. I have had it and know many people who have had it. It usually is worse when you first get up in the morning, or anytime you have been sitting/resting and not up walking using it. It is very uncomfortable and feels like a big bruise under your heel.
My doctor several years ago gave me a website that showed some stretches to do for the tendon/ligaments, and also made this suggestion: freeze a can of coke (completely freeze it, it won't burst and make a mess in the freezer I promise), put a sock on your foot (or I suppose you could put a sock on the can, lol) and use your foot/heel to roll the can back and forth across the floor. Do this several times a day. The cold reduces the swelling and the rolling also massages it a bit. Advil can't hurt.
And do the stretching also---I don't remember the website, but if you look up plantar fasciitis stretches you should probably be able to find something. You put your arms up on the wall and stretch the affected foot/leg out behind and lean your weight into that heel (similar to a calf stretch), if I recall correctly.
Hope he feels better soon.

Could be he bruised his heel and did not realize it. If you are really worried, take him to the doctor.

Could be plantar fascitis. It is an inflammation in one of the muscles/tendons in the bottom of your foot. I had it several years ago. I think treatment depends on the severity. I got cortisone shots x 2, and a splint to wear at night in bed. No problems with it now.

Did you do a google search on heel pain in a child? You are going to scare yourself silly if you do this.
Take him to an orthopedist. He may have heel or bone spurs...common things that happen and there are things to help him.

Have you checked out his shoes? I have issues with my heels if I wear cheap or older shoes. Once I change the shoes, my feet heal. (not always the same day, mind you, but within a few days) Are his shoes old? Or, are they new?
