HeartBurn

I was wondering if anyone has any tried and true methods for getting rid of heartburn? I am due with my second baby in December and I am having awful heartburn lately. All I have tried so far is TUMS and they seem to work but not all that well. I have a doctor's appoinment this Thursday so I was looking for something to get me by until then. Thanks Ladies!

What can I do next?

I take Zantac. I am due next week and have been taking them since my 4th month. I originally started off with the 75mg but I have moved up to the 150 because it was getting worse. I was given the ok by my doctor. It works quickly. Sometimes I take it before I eat or while I am eating it just depends. But I am only allowed two per day so use them sparingly. I have never had to use more than one on any particular day. It seems to last the entire day. Hopefully this helps you.

Chocolate milk worked so well for me! I had it pretty bad with my first, and then with my second, I felt like I was breathing fire! One of my friends told me she drank it when she was pregnant and it helped right away, and she was totally right. Good luck!

Tums dont work that well for me eaither. I've tried a few things that help, one is drink a glass of milk. Also eating something mild like bread can help break up the acidity. and ultimately, its best to watch what you eat for a bit, anything spicy or acidic like certain fruits or tomatoes/tomato sauce always sets me off, i cant eat bananas at all. so a solution is perhaps to eat fairly bland stuff until december. oatmeal, bread, cereal, etc.

I hate to be a downer but I had terrible heart burn with my first. I mean I had to sleep(when I actually could) sitting up and I kept a glass of ice chips next to me during the night to ease the burn of the acid reflux I was experiencing as well. The doctor gave me anti-acids, but really the only thing that helped was delivery and let me tell you it was INSTANT! I went from being in some real pain from it to just instantly being heartburn free! I hope you find something that helps!

ETA: Milk did provide some temporary relief but it was very short relief.

A good, cold glass of skim milk always worked for me. It worked better than Tums in my case. Good luck!

Hi there, I had 3 kids all 21 months apart the oldest is 4 and 1/2 and the youngest is now 13 months. I had THE WORST heart burn during all 3 pregnancys the last was so bad I never ate anything and if I did I threw it up because of the acid and I only gained 10 pounds the entire time and my baby was 8 lbs and 12 oz.
ANY WAY, yada yada... My Dr. told me to Take 2 zantac 75's (or 1 150)I actually bought the SAMS store brand acid reducer. Its the same thing as the zantac but MUCH cheaper and that worked great. I took them every morning AND I found that sucking on peppermints helped A TON. I had a hole bag of them in my purse at all times. I really found that if I missed my dose of zantac I could really tell the difference.

Also, Eat several small meals and don't lie down after eating and chew your food much longer than you normaly would.

hope that helps... The acid reflux heart burn was the worst thing ever for me. So I really know how you feel...

I just had twins 5 months ago and I had terrible heartburn through my pregnancy. My doctor recommended Prilosec OTC and he also prescribed medications that were once/day and it took care of my heartburn. That was my WORST symptom it was so uncomfortable. I hope it works for you as well as it did for me. Best of luck with your upcoming addition!
Blessings.

Hi,

When I was pregnant, my doctor told me to chew gum. It produces saliva which in turn speeds up digestion. It worked for me plus it tastes much better than TUMS. I also heard bananas work too.

Good luck,
J.

I did tums and zantac. Both great. I had it with both of mine.

Pepcid is safe for you to use. It worked wonders on me.
