Healthy Snacks for Kid's Soccer Team

Hello! As a parent of a 5 year old girl who plays soccer, it is now my turn to provide the snacks. We have one child that is very allergic to peanuts so we must stay away from all peanut content. But, I need some healthy & portable snack ideas for the kids, during the game (at half-time) and after the game. I'd like to do something a little different and a little special...though not spend a fortune or too much time. Most parents have brought fruit to snack on at half-time (like sliced oranges, sliced apples & grapes). After the game, they typically give something more 'treat' like, from Rice Krispy treats to other pre-packaged items.

What have some of you Moms done when it was your snack day OR that you have seen that made great snacks for kids? Please let me know. Thanks. L.

What can I do next?

When my son played soccer, we always had fruit at half time. When it was my turn, I usually just bought whatever was on sale. Strawberries were always a big hit. I washed them and cut the stems off so there was no "trash." Those are on sale at Kroger right now. You can get two packages for $3.

For after the game, I always got prepackaged crackers like goldfish or cheeze its and a cold capri sun. One time, I made popcorn and divided it up into Halloween treat bags.

Last week was our turn so I did Popcorn Balls... I was just trying to think of something different and most of the time my son does not eat the prepackaged items... They were a hit, even the parents were asking for them. You can make them or right now they have them in the halloween section..
I prefer fruit also and the kids are usually hot and really don't want much of a snack after the game.

I agree with the fruit at half time. I did oranges and grapes. For the after game snack I gave out baked pretzel sticks and granola bars. That way the kids had a choice at what they wanted or they could have both. You could also do 100% fruit leathers. I will probably do that next time. You can find them at Kroger in the Organics section. One dad brought apple chips which were great! Kroger also has really cute waters for kids. I found some 1/2 pint green waters that matched the kid's uniforms. They also sell 1/2 pint Disney waters for about 2.50 for 6 or 9.

My coach has requested no candy or sweets so I ended up getting some 100 calorie snacks, some did orange slices, the cheese and cracker combo snacks etc..

Most packaged granola bars have an insane amount of sugar in them--you might as well eat cookies--but it's easy to make your own: http://www.sweetsavvy.com/recipes/recipe.php?id=R85

This way you can also make sure there are no nuts, if you're dealing with allergies--you can substitute sunflower and/or sesame seeds for the nuts, or just skip that part all together and add more fruits and grains.

If you don't want to bother with the bars, you could also just make a trail mix using the various seeds and dried fruits available in the bulk bins at Market Street.

And, of course, kids can never have too many fruits and veggies! If you want to bring dip for veggies, there are some very good ones made with yogurt, so the dip can be good for them, too! GL and have fun!

how about 1/2 a banana with a dollop of peanut butter for the kids that can or just want it.
