Healthy Recipes for an 11 Month Old

I am a terrible cook. I don't know how to season food and make it taste good. My eleven month old baby loves to eat seasoned foods. Does anyone have any recipes for healthy meals that taste good?

There was a book out years ago that you can probably still find. It is called "Feed Me, I'm Yours". It was a great book, and I remember it fondly from when my kids were younger.

most vegeatables are fairly easy to season. For black eye or purple hull peas, green beans, butter beans or lima beans, I use garlic powder, soy sauce, season salt, lemon pepper in generous amounts to taste. I also add allspice and ginger in very small amounts as a little goes a long way. Always TASTE your food as you cook. For a pound of beans I would say a TBsp of soy and a 1/2 to 3/4 tsp of everything but the ginger and allspice...those you use only a dash of.

For ground meat, well, meat in general, I use soy, lea n' perrins, season salt, garlic powder, and lemon pepper on just about everything. When grilling (on the foreman) i use italian seasoning on chicken and pork, and i leave off the season salt on fish.

I make a shepherd pie type dish that's good and smashed already for your little one--brown 1-1.5lbs meat (venison or beef) and drain if necessary, stir in 1 small or large can mushroom slices, 1 can cream of mushroom soup and seasonings (if you didn't season while browning). place in the bottom of a greased 9x13 pan, top with mashed potatoes, sprinkle top with cheese and bake until cheese is melted and beginning to brown. I serve with english peas cooked in a steam fresh bag, then seasoned with butter, season salt and garlic powder.

Spaghetti is good and you can make it homemade or from a jar--

I'd recommend anything by Taste of Home. http://www.tasteofhome.com/ They sell magazines and publish cookbooks. Most of their recipes are submitted from regular people around the country, and they usually use regular ingredients and commonplace prep. You may also find little pamphlets of recipe cards in your grocery store check-out line. I've never had a bad recipe from them. They have a number of books available on Amazon.com, too - Light and Tasty, Healthy Cooking, their large ring-bound Taste of Home Cookbook.

Brocolli, Cheese, and rice casserole
1 family size frozen brocolli (at Wal-Mart)
1 Can cream of mushroom
1 block of velveeta
1/2 cup butter
1 onion
3-6 cups rice depending on the thickness you desire of the casserole

First boil the water with a tsp of salt and add the brocolli letting it boil, then strain. While the brocolli is boiling, in a seperate pot cook the rice or in a rice cooker. In another pot ad 1/2 cup butter and put your stove on medium to high heat causing the butter to melt, then add the onions diced finely letting them cook down and become clear looking and soft, then once the onions have did that add the cream of mushroom, stir it in. Dice up the entire velveeta block and add that in, stir. Let everything mix together, then add the boiled and drained broccolli pieces. Mix well. It should be a smooth mixture now. Add salt, not to much.

Get a casserole dish and spray it with cooking spray (Pam) and pour the mixture in the casserole dish. Add the rice in. Top the entire dish with sliced american cheese and bake in the oven 375 degrees, till the cheese melts together on top.

Serve with a baked chicken or rotisserie chicken. In this meal you have your protein, fat,vegetables, and carbs. It's actually a very quick dish and the family loves it.

I'm from Louisiana and we love seasoned dishes as well.

Get the Sneaky Chef cookbook for kids by Missy Lapine. They have regular foods like soups, lasagna, mac-n-cheese... They just make a puree (mashed up veggies) and hid it into the food. It works well for the entire family. There is also one for the man in your life by this author. Great books and you don't feel bad about feeding them this food.
