Health Question - Mead,CO
This may be an unusual question, but I'm curious if anyone else has been through this. Recently one of my breasts has gotten very itchy and I can't figure out why. I haven't switched detergents, I'm not breast feeding, and the skin there is not dry. Although it is getting permanent red marks from my scratching. Has anyone ever had this, anywhere on the body? I have looked around on line, but not found anything helpful, so my next move is probably to see the doctor. But I just thought I'd ask here first. Thanks.
So What Happened?™
Thanks everyone for a lot of ideas to try. I went with the easiest first, trying a new lotion. That seems to have made a very big difference, enough that it's not really a problem now. But I do intend on mentioning it to my doctor at my next appointment just in case she feels it warrants further action.

This has actually happened to me intermittently over the years and yes, on usually one breast (not always the same one). It drives me bananas! How long as this been going on? Thankfully, it seems to only last a few days at a time for me. I usually try something topical first, like a hydrocortisone cream. After I scratch a bit, I sometimes get welts, like hives.
If it is persistent, I would definitely try to see the dermatologist. I have not gone to see one yet, but mainly b/c it disappears before I could even think about getting into to see the derm.
Good luck.

i have a similar problem on another part of my body, i don't know how to describe it, umm, below my stomach and right above where my hips start? i can't find dry skin there, but it itches sooooo bad!! the only thing i have found that makes it stop is a cream called chigger x. i don't know where my hubby found it, or even how long you should use it before seeing a dr, but i have gotten some relief from it! hope that helps...

I have had that happen on the top of my foot. I just scratch and scratch and it still itches, dry skin does not seem to be the cause but I put lotion, vaseline, poison ivy lotion or witch hazel on to relieve the itching (whatever I have on hand) the witch hazel and poison ivy lotion work well. It eventually goes away and then a few months later I will get the itchy feeling again.

For several months my the skin on my chest itched and I scratched and scratched. Their was not rash; only the red marks from my scratching. The doctor did not know what was causing it but suggested that once we start scratching an itch the itch continues. He suggested using a cortisone cream and do my best to not scratch. I did this and the itch stopped in a week or two. Since then, whenever I have an itch and notice that it's lasting, I force myself to not scratch it and it does stop.

I had this happen on my breast everytime I would get out of the shower. I thought I was going to die it would itch for about 45 mins every time. Doctors didn't really help they said "I was allegtic to the sun". Hello I grew at the beach and this just now happened? Then I talked to my friends mom (she is a nurse). She said this is probably a simple fix. I developed and allergy to detergants. See they are always changing them weather you know it or not. Try washing all you clothes in hypo allergentic detergants and dye free fragance free soap even change your shower soap. The difference for me was right away I was cured!! Hope this helps.

Have you ever had this happen before anywhere else? I have - often, so what you describe sounds like someone else called - the 'winter itch'. Did you just move here? We moved recently within SLC and our new house does not have a water softener, and I've been itching like crazy on the back of my right hip. I've had it happen between my breasts, on my front hip, and my shins (till they almost bleed if I'm not careful). If absolutely nothing has changed for you, and you have not experienced this before, than I have no idea what it could be. ;) What I have is a mild excema problem that went problem free all my life because I lived in a more humid state. Now that we live in UT I have to use the sensitive skin body washes (Aveeno works the best for me), and lather on the lotion (Aveeno again) during the winter. My oldest son has similar issues.

I personally would see a doctor. Mine have itched every winter or when i had used a different detergent. Except this time it was different i started to notice it itching in the exact same spot (right on the nipple mainly). I went to the doctor and the first thing they are having me do is a mammo. I'm 33, it'll be my first and there is a concern of padgets disease of the nipple. It's scary to think about but it is possible. Does it itch in the same spot every single day? Nipple? if not then i would do what the other ladies suggested. I wish for you to not freak out and jump off the deep end on worry yourself to death. I never heard of it until i went to see my doctor about mine and the first thing she asked was about cancer in my family and unfortunitly since my lil cousin had cancer before 21 and her mom (my moms sister) and their other sister had cancer they want to start with a mammo before treatment of skin irritation.
Feel free to message me back or find me on facebook... T. M.

Hi! I haven't actually heard of this, but it could be that your skin has developed an allergy to the chemicals in the detergent or your soaps. While laundry detergent, body washes, and even chemicals you use around your home work well, they're pretty toxic. I've been working with a company that has developed all natural line of products that are commited to keeping the harmful chemicals and toxins out of the household (and they even seem to work better than the well-known brands!). Let me know if I can get you more information about any of those products.
