Hi!

I was wondering if I can get some responses on Health Insurance. I have two kids, a 4 yr old and a 7 month old. My Husband's job doesn't offer health insurance and my job charges $270/month per child. I was wondering if anyone has information on an insurance plan that anyone can apply for (w/out being through an employer)that would cost me less than this for each of my kids?

Thank you,

K.

You could try applying for MN Care, since your husbands job doesn't offer insurance and yours is so high priced, causing a burden to your family you may get approved, regardless of income limits. When I made over the income limit I still got approved since my place of work didn't have any benefit plan. Also check into Health Partners. I work for the State and my portion is only 106 a month for my child. The premiums they pay are not much higher than that.

we are on Minnesota care as well. For my husband and I together we pay $80 a month and have $3.00 copays for Rx and office visits. Our daughter is on Medical Assistance. I'm pretty sure in the state of Minnesota children are covered on MA until they are 2 so your daughter should qualify as well. MA has no copay and no monthly premium, it's just a little harder to find providers that take MA. We use the Hennepin Care clinics, and the pediatric clinic at HCMC. I love our pediatrician. It is also kind of a pain in the butt to fill out the paperwork, you have to fill out renewal every 6 months but well worth the trouble for all the money saved. Good luck-I hope you qualify!
Also-if you plan on having any more kids every pregnant woman in the state of minnesota qualifies for medical assistance regardless of income. We didn't pay a dime for our delivery and we were in the NICU for 5 days! Great program that not many people know about.

We are self insured and I know we pay $513/ month for my husband, me and my 4 and 2 year old. With that we also have a $4100 deductable. It is Blue Cross Blue Shield. It is very good insurance, but very expensive. When we were looking there were only 2 options and they were about the same cost. Look in the phone book under health insurance and you can find a broker.

Good Luck!

You can try applying for MN CARE based upon your income if you qualify you will have a monthly co-pay which is usually pretty fair and reasonable. My cousin and her husband both work, make decent money and have two girls and the entire family is on it. You have to usually prove your husbands job doens't offer it and that it's completely unreasonably exspensive for you to pay for it and usually you will qualify.

I work for BCBS and if you call the customer service number, they can give you different options. A lot of people now are going on a HSA plan it's a very low premium and you can choose your deductible amount. Actually if you go out to the blue cross website, the information is out there. It's www.bluecrossmn.com
