I am wondering if anyone knows any health insurance in Ohio that is affordable? Right now, we pay $200.00 a month for a family of 4 that doesn't even cover hardly anything and it's through United Healthcare. We would love to find something less expensive. Thanks:)

What can I do next?

Actually, $200/month is really good for family of 4. We pay more than twice that, $30 co-pay for office visits, $200 ER visits PLUS 20% of everything that is done there in the ER (ridiculous), and anything in-network is also 20% AFTER $750 deductible for each family member. When I taught, we went through my insurance and it was AWESOME-never really paid a dime for anything.

Something really needs to be done about this injustice.......

I'm in Ohio and we have to get individual insurance since my husband is self-employed. We had Aetna and it was okay when we first got it, but they slowly raised us until we were paying $531/month with a $10,000 family deductible!! I found an Anthem policy that is $430/month for our family of 5 (my stepson is on his M.'s group policy- his ADHD meds drove our policy up too much!). We have a $2500 individual/$5000 family deductible, first 3 dr visits per person are $35, after that we pay an agreed upon amount with provider (in the ballpark of $40-$50). Also, all well child checks and immunizations are included. Good luck!
Also, beware of Aetna! When you are purchasing your policy, you will get an English-speaking person in the United States. After that, ANY TIME you call for ANY REASON, you will get someone in India. Every single time I called, I was on the phone for a minimum of an hour, largely due to the fact that they could not understand what I was asking or I could not understand their English. I have not had this issue with Anthem.

We are also in Ohio. We had to do our own insurance a little over a year ago and we were with Aetna. With two little ones I wanted something more than major medical and it was the most comprehenisve and cheapest plan I could find. We paid about $400 a month for our family of 4. Good Luck!

Yes, $200 is good. Of course group vs individual is very different. My husband actually works at Anthem as a manager of a sales team, and use to sell it himself for individual plans. united and Anthem seem to have the best rates with the most amount of providers because they are so large. With individual they rate you on your health, just like in car insurance where they rate you on your driving history. Are you on a high deductible plan? If so you want to make sure that you are saving elsewhere for those costs if need be. If it is an individual plan I would call around or use a trusted broker.

$200 sounds pretty inexpensive - sorry it doesn't cover much though. We live in Ohio and purchase our own insurance from Medical Mutual and it is $565 for a family of 4. In order to keep the premium that low the deductible is crazily high; so high that we can't reach it without a catastrophic event. On top of that $565 we have to put $175 into an HSA each month. Because our deductible is so high we end up paying for 100% of everything out of the HSA. So, yep, $200 sounds pretty good.

I have Anthem but its through my work. I pay around $300 for me and my son per month. Its an 80/20 deal though. What your paying seems good to me but if the coverage is poor then its not good.
