I went in on Monday for my first HCG check, and then 48 hours later that number had tripled! Has this happened to anyone else? What does it mean?

What can I do next?

Sounds like you are very pregnant! Tripling in HCG numbers is excellent and a good indication you will not miscarry. When my numbers "almost" reached the tripling point, I was also led to believe it could be multiples but it was just one boy! : )

Good luck with everything!!

J., Those numbers are totally normal. I am currently 37.5 weeks pregnant with my second daughter. The doctor did a HCG level check every other day for a week in the beginning of this pregnancy. My numbers doubled at first, then started tripling. The doctor said that sometimes if the numbers triple or even quadruple that could mean more than one baby due to extra hormones your baby had to make. But as for me I ended up with one little girl inside me:)Remember tripling #'s doesn't nessasarily mean more than one baby it just means that theres a possiblilty:) Good luck to you. Oh, I posted a website here for you to read up on.

Congrats on your pregnancy! I will be 13wks along on Sunday with baby #2. There is a website you can use called betabase.info. You can compare your numbers to other women. How far along were you when the first was taken? Mine were as follows:
11DPO=40
15DPO=206
17DPO=517

I'm having just one! My friend's were:
11DPIUI=288
13DPIUI=686
15DPIUI=2800+
She's having twins!!!

Good luck and you'll know soon enough how many are in there! As long as the numbers continue to increase, sounds like you have a healthy bean in there!!

I have 2 sets of twins. It is quite possible that high HCG levels means that you have multiples. It is too soon to tell, though. Sometimes you have multiples and one disappears very early and you would never have known except for the HCG levels. So just be patient take good care of yourself and see what happens. If you do have twins, that will be your mantra anyway so may as well start practicing. Good luck.

Hi and congrats on your pregnancy!! The HCG level should at least double every 48-72 hours. When it does that is an early indicator of a viable pregnancy. On occasion when the number rises consisderably as in your case it can sometimes indicate a multiple pregnancy or that you are a little further along than you might realize, unless of course you are pretty sure on your conception date. I am including a link that I used at the beginning of my last pregnancy, which sadly ended in a miscarriage, and my current pregnancy (I am almost 30 weeks!). It was very helpful to me because it includes a range for your HCG levels. Hope this has been helpful. Good luck! p://www.americanpregnancy.org/duringpregnancy/hcglevels.html

This is good! Your numbers are supposed to double and triple at the beginning. Numbers that don't increase correctly are usually a sign of an impending miscarriage.

That's a very good thing. That is what they are supposed to do. In a healthy pregnancy your HCG levels are supposed to double/triple every 48 hours I believe until a certain point, I don't remember what week in pregnancy that is and then they sort of level off. In the begginning there is cause for concern when they are not raising fast enough. Also I also believe that if your HCG levels are really. really high there is a possibility of multiples. But don't worry yet, my friend had the same thing and then did a sonogram and there was only one heart beat and one baby.

Sorry to repeat what the mom before me said, I guess I should have read first.

I believe you are pregnant right? HCG levels are checked to ensure the baby is growing when the count goes up that is really good

Hi J.

Congrats on the little one...reading everyones responses you have all the right answers...they are suppose to go up...I can tell you the higher the number the stronger the chance for multiples. At my first visit I had high HCG levels and then when I went back at 8 weeks at that blood draw I was over 100000...I had triplets :) So, congrats again!!!

HCG levels normally double every 48 hours.
To triple is also normal.
You could potentially have multiples with a higher HCG, but not necessarily.
