Having Trouble Getting Pregnant with PCOS
My husband and I are in the process of trying to have another baby (we have two already) the problem is I have PCOS so with my first two we had to seek fertility treatments. This time we are trying to hopefully aviod that, one because the drugs are so strong and two its very expensive. I have been on 2000mg of Glucophage now for two months and am hoping with my diet and excercise changes this will help us to get pregnant without the use of drugs this time. Does anyone out there have any sugestions of something else to try or have they had success with just the glugophage/metformin. We are to the point that maybe if this doesn't happen on its own that we might just call it good with the two we have, but I hate to give up so easily if there is any other advice or knowledge that might be helpful.

So What Happened?™
Just wanted to give everyone an up-date on the whole pregnancy and PCOS thing. We are Due with our third child in the end of June. After lots of praying about it and adding Juice Plus to my diet with the metformin we found out we were expecting in November. I want to say that I truly believe by adding Juice Plus to my diet that I was able to get healthy enough to get pregnant. If anyone has any inquires to what Juice Plus is you can contact me at ____@____.com. I know it worked.

Hi A.,
I too am PCOS and we tried for 3 years and nothing. My doctor put me on Clomid and that didn't work. I just decided that I wasn't going to go on anyother medication and if it happened, then it was meant to be. I started taking Phase II, which is a carb blocker in an effort to try to lose some weight and 2 months later I was pregnant with my daughter. I'm thinking about have another one next year, so I hope that this will work again. It's worth a shot. I got the from www.swansonvitamins.com. I hope this helps. Good Luck!!!

You might want to see if the Glucophage might contribute to your infertility. I beleive that there are contraindications with Glucophage and pregnancy. Usually insulin is used rather than Glucophage. Might be worth researching.
Best of luck!

Hi A.,
I am pregnant with my first baby and I'm due in November. I have PCOS, and what finally worked for me, was the combination of Metformin (taking 3 pills a day), and the Clomid at the same time. I also kept a temperature chart, and my husband and I made sure to try each time my temp went pretty high, and then went down. In looking at the temp chart, it seemed like I ovulated a few times that same month (which I doubt), but apparently one of them worked because we were pregnant after one month of being on both medications!! :)
Let me know if you have any questions.
A. :)

Hi, A.. What a blessing to have two beautiful children aleady!! Congratulations!
I too have PCOS. My husband and I actually became pregnant on our own the first time but with our second child we had to result to in-vitro because of my PCOS. I have a good friend (who also has PCOS) and who was successful getting pregnant using Metformin and Clomid. It took them almost a full year and they were one month away from throwing in the towel.
I have VERY small hopes of getting pregnant again on our own too - my OB is almost certain it won't happen and that we should go through the infertility but I don't have it in me to do the in-vitro again. Personally, I'd rather adopt - due to my age (37) and my other health issues (clotting disorder and my history with gestational diabetes and PIH). But, I've been successful at dieting and losing some extra weight, I'm eating healthy and watching my stress levels. If it happens -WONDERFUL! We're going to start the adoption process anyway.
I think you're greatest advantage is that you are still young and have time. I know when family planning is involved - alot of families like to keep the children within a certain age range of each other for obvious reasons which makes it that much more stressful.
I don't know if this was a help but I did want to send you a message to let you know that going through infertility was one of the hardest things I've ever done and I have so much respect for others who have experienced some of the same things I have and still live to tell (and smile) about it!!! :)
I wish you all the best, A.. Send me back if you'd like. I'll be praying for your success, whatever your avenue to get there!
Take Care.

I have PCOS as well. I had to use clomid with my first two pregnancies - a boy and then a set of twins. I am pregnant now and all we had to use was the Metformin for a month. You may want to double check that BOTH you and your husband are on a good multi-vitamin and he is staying away from hot tubs. The Metformin did make me feel yucky, but I told myself I would try it for 4-6 months and we were pregnant on the first month! You can email me if you want: ____@____.com fun!

I have three metformin babies. :) The first was conceived after 7 years of infertility and the aid of fertility treatments, but just my 3rd month on metformin. The second was conceived after a surgery to clean up endometriosis and after 10 months back on metformin. The third was our surprise package about 6 months back on metformin with no other infertility intervention! :D

I have a friend with PCOS who got pregnant "simply" by losing weight (I know, how simple is that, really?). She did a diet called "food combining." I don't know that much about it but I know she had a book that explained it and she lost at least 50 pounds and "boom" she was pregnant. Good luck!
